Chapter 59
Max
After telling Tyler all about my time with Addison, he hadn’t stopped celebrating. Even other members of the pack within the palace kept wondering what had cheered him up so much.
He poured both of us another drink, our royal guards just a few feet away from us as we sat by one of the balconies.
“I don’t know what makes me happier the fact that Jess will be ealed, or you and Addison finally being together despite the risks.”
“It’s obviously the Jess part,” I replied.
He clutched his chest, as if offended. “Do you really think that way about me?”
“I know you. You’re definitely happy for me, but it’s Jess who comes first in this situation since you two like each other so much and there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“Good. Now I don’t have to feel guilty.”
I scoffed. “I’m not surprised.”
“So…about that call…”
He trailed off despite using the mind link, gesturing with his head towards the royal guards so we could be alone and call Jess.
Just as we told them to wait right where they were, our father suddenly showed up, his presence instantly causing tension even before he said a word.
“Did I hear that right?” he said, his voice low but authoritative. “Where do you intend to go without your guards?”
My first thought was to tell him that this wasn’t our first time leasing our guards behind, but I chose to keep my mouth shut about it.
“There’s just something the two of us need to discuss,” Tyler chimed in, keeping his head low.
“Whatever you need to discuss can be done in their presence. That’s why you have the mind link. If there’s no justifiable reason, you’re not going anywhere without them.”
As always, he was being difficult and no matter what, we just wanted to get away..
It was then that I thought of a way to convince him.
“You have wanted Tyler and I to present our mates to you for a long time now. We have a few things to discuss while being in close proximity with them and don’t want to make them uncomfortable.”
He firmly shook his head and said, “That’s not reason enough. You’re royalty and when you’re within Pike Hill, especially the palace, you carry yourselves accordingly.”
“In that case, we’re going to Raven Mist,” Tyler chimed in.
Father sighed with a nod of approval. “Now that you’ve put it the way, you may leave.”
I glanced at Tyler, impressed by his bold step. He didn’t want to wait any longer to call Jess.
The two of us left right away and he gloated the entire time abo what he had accomplished by speaking up the way he did.

Our father made sure that we left Pike Hill only because we said he would, the royal guards accompanying us all the way until it was time for them to return.
Tyler and I watched in silence as they returned to the palace. They even looked back at us a few times, as if closely watching
“Is it just me or did those guards seem like they were up to something?” Tyler suspiciously narrowed his eyes.
“I thought I was the only one who felt that way. From now on, we need to be more careful with what we say and do. We’ve become too comfortable.”
“Do you think our father suspects us?”
“Don’t forget that there’s mom, too.”
He exhaled deeply, then said, “Well, fuck it. Let’s just call Jess.”
With our senses on high alert, we made sure we were completely alone before he dialed her number.
“Hey!” she said from the other end of the line with so much excitement.
“Hey, beautiful,” he said to her.
“What’s up?” She giggled, her voice sweet.
“Somebody wants to talk to you in person today.”
“Who is it?”
Tyler paused for a few seconds, then said, “It’s Addison.”
The other end of the line went quiet for a few seconds.
“You mean ‘that’ Addison?” Her tone turned a little harsh.
“Yes, the one and only.”
“I have nothing to say to her.”
“She has something to say to you and it’s very important. Trust me.”
It took a lot more convincing before she even entertained the idea of meeting up with Addison, but Tyler knew the right buttons to push until she finally agreed to it. She wanted to choose, her own time and place, but we insisted that it had to be in Raven Mist.
After the call ended. He patted himself on the back for his hard work.
I learned from him at that moment that since Jess knew that Addison and I were seen together at times, she had made several attempts to dig for information but he always changed the subject.
Even with that type of attitude, it didn’t make him like her any less.
“Enough about me. When will you tell our parents?” he asked.
“After Addison and I bond. It’s happening tonight and nothing must get in the way. That’s why they’ll only find out afterwards.”
I clenched my fists behind my back, ready to do whatever it was oing to take for everything to turn out perfectly. Despite
who I was and Addison’s abilities which could put us in danger, he still trusted me enough to want to be with me. There was

no greater joy than that.
Right after sunset, Tyler and I met up with Addison, watching he pace back and forth while on the phone with Gina.
She still wasn’t satisfied with how Gina tried to convince her that she had nothing to do with Ruby finding out about Saga being sealed away. They had been good friends from the time they became close and Gina clung to that fact.
Addison only gave it a rest when Gina raised her voice and hung up on her.
“It seems you’re not satisfied.” Tyler approached her.
She sighed. “It’s just…I don’t know who to trust anymore. Only na and Jess knew about it and I firmly believe it’s neither one of you. Lyra put a spell on Gina so she wouldn’t say anything about it to anyone.”
“Just like the one she’s put on Ruby?”
“Exactly and if it was really Gina who did this, maybe Lyra was too late. I really hope she isn’t the one because I’ll never forgive her.”
“There’s only one way to find out,” I chimed in. “Ask her again in person and watch her reaction. We all can tell when someone is lying.”
As we both made suggestions to her on how she could handle the situation next time, Jess’s scent grew stronger and Tyler closed his eyes and deeply inhaled it.
“Here she comes,” he said quietly.
Addison was nervous but chuckled at his reaction.
She stood right in the middle of the road, looking on as Jess got loser.
Tyler and I kept our distance, wanting the two of them to have that moment alone.
Jess had a gaze so sharp that it made Addison look away a few times despite the good news she had to share.
She had carried that guilt for so long.
“Hey,” she said with a smile. “I’m so glad you could mak-”
“Spare me the greetings and shit like that. Just get to the point.” Jess twisted her face in anger.
Addison sighed, trying to keep her composure. She knew that something like that would happen.
“Before I explain to you why I wanted to meet you, I need to ask you something. Are you the one who told Ruby about Saga?”
Tyler and I glanced at each other, surprised that Addison suddenly asked her that.
Narrowing her eyes, Jess said, “What the hell makes you think I know who that is? Are you fucking crazy?”
“Hey, watch the tone.” I glared at Jess as I warned her. The instinct to protect Addison kicked in so strongly that Tyler feared I would hurt his girl.
