Chapter 66
Max
Usually, Tyler and I would take our seats as soon as we arrived at the dining table, but he stood right beside me, wanting to do exactly as I did.
“Are we missing something here?” my mother said with raised eyebrows. “Since when do you two have breakfast while standing? Take your seats.”
“No.” Tyler and I said in unison and I looked back at him, glad to have him stand by me.
“Do I sense disrespect in your tones?” my father asked, not even poking up from his plate.
Tyler remained silent, letting me be the one to speak..
“Father, why did you get Addison Hunter banned from the competition?”
“Quite bold of you to directly ask me such a thing.”
“Please just answer me. Is it because of who her father is?”
“When the time is right, you’ll both find out,” my mother chime in, her tone neutral.
“You knew about this?” My eyes narrowed as I shook my head at her.
“Of course I knew. Take your seats and have your breakfast.” She bit a chunk off her meat, looking away from me.
My father remained silent as he focused on his meal, not even raising his head to look at my brother and I for a second.
While I was furious, I just couldn’t walk out of there as I pleased and we all knew that.
Even my father’s silence spoke volumes of what he expected.
No matter how Tyler and I looked at it, there was only one way to handle that situation and that was to obey our father’s orders.
Had it been anyone else out there, we would have done as we pleased.
Suddenly, my father said, “If you really want to know why Addison was banned, you’ll find out during the meal.”
It was so unlike him to explain himself to anyone, but it was all we had as a starting point, so we took our seats just like we had already decided.
“Good. That’s more like it,” he said, then looked at the maidservants. “Bring my sons something to drink.”
There was already so much to drink at the table, as always and Tyler and I wondered what else was left.
When the drinks were finally brought in, the maidservants stood right behind Tyler and I without putting down the bottles on the table and we wondered why.
Suddenly our parents dashed across the table and held our mouths wide open. It became clear at that moment that they meant to harm us. No matter how much my brother and I tried to break free and run, we were no match for the two of them. They were way stronger than us.
“Don’t worry, my sons,” mother said gently but with a grunt as she fought to keep Tyler still. “This is just so you can’t use any of your abilities for a while.”

“Pour it,” my father growled, pressing hard against my jaw like he would rip it apart.
It was only when the liquid was being poured into my mouth th I realised it was wolfsbane and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
Addison
I was back home in Raven Mist, resting my head on Aunt Nora’s lap as she comforted me. It didn’t matter what she said to make me feel better. It was all for nothing.
“How about you eat something?”
I sighed with irritation, sitting up. “I’m not hungry. Why do you ll assume that food will fix everything?”
She gently rubbed my back with a smile. “We’re only trying to help.”
“The only thing that can help is the Lycan King’s reason for getting me banned, but it’s almost sunset and I’ve heard nothing from Max. His phone hasn’t rang since I last spoke to him. I can even reach Tyler. Something just doesn’t feel right about all this.”
“It’s just like I told you before,” Lyra said. “Now that you and Max are linked, you can also feel part of what the other is feeling. Trust whatever your body’s telling you right now.”
Lyra wasn’t the type to usually voice out her feelings through he tone, but at that moment, she just couldn’t hide it.
Aunt Nora was in the middle of talking about my family back in Red Valley when I gestured to her to keep quiet. We could all sense that there was someone outside.
Lyra was the fastest way to find out so we let her go outside to check and she vanished, only to return a few seconds later with an envelope in her hand.
She didn’t even say a word as she handed it to me and as I received it, I noticed my name written on it in bold letters. The font was so elegant that it didn’t seem like it was just from anyone out there.
They all sat with me as I opened in and took out a folded white paper. I unfolded it and it was the same font as what was on the envelope.
It was a message from the Lycan King himself, who wanted me to head to the palace immediately so he could personally tell me why I was banned.
As soon as I finished reading it, Lyra stretched her neck and said “Let’s go.”
“Even if you come with me, you still won’t show yourself. I’ll be able to take care of myself.”
“You’re right about that, but I’m just thinking that things could get ugly.”
I chuckled.
“What is it?” She narrowed her eyes.
“It’s just…behind all this, you’re so sweet.”
She smacked her lips and looked away, waving her finger at me. Don’t ever say that again.”
“Got it.” I nodded in agreement.
Aunt Nora also wasn’t for the idea that I go alone, but I assured her that it would all be alright. Lyra would also be on high

alert in case I needed her.
The three of us even agreed not to tell anyone back in Red Valle. They would only want to come with me or stop me. I needed to know why the Lycan King had done that to me.
Lyra held my hand and we vanished, leaving Aunt Nora behind.
We appeared in the woods near the palace and Lyra stayed back reminding me that she would be right there.
As I made my way along the path leading to the gates, I had my ead high with fixed strides but my heart suddenly started racing when I sensed that my parents, Dylan and Cole were inside the palace. How and when did they get there?
