Tyler lay on the sofa across from me, both of us still with wolfsbane in our system. Throughout the day, our parents personally shoved it down our throats. There wasn’t a single point in time on that day where we felt we could fight back and
escape.
I couldn’t even speak to Addison no matter how much I tried.
Tyler and I even had to watch what we said to each other as our rents could hear it all along with those standing outside
the room we were in.
The wolfsbane had kept us so weak that we hadn’t even been able to use the mindlink with each other.
I thought I could get rid of it all by throwing it up, but it was all or nothing.
Frustrated, I shut my eyes, but they opened wide in surprise and worry when I sensed the Hunters within the palace. One moment, their scents weren’t there then the next, I could pick up four distinct scents.
Even Tyler noticed as he sat up more with furrowed eyebrows while coughing.
“Why…are they here? How are they here?” he asked, his voice strained.
“I don’t know, but this doesn’t look good.”
Suddenly, my heart skipped a beat when I picked up Addison’s sent right within the palace. I already knew that I was still too weak to use the mindlink that required more power, but I made a desperate attempt to communicate with her. It was all in vain.
I clenched my fists, wishing that I had my phone. All forms of communication had been taken away from my brother and I.
Her scent didn’t get stronger or weaker, like she stopped in the same spot for a while.
It was then that Jeffrey came in along with two of the strongest warriors to drag us out of the room.
We weren’t even going to put up a fight even if we tried.
It was written all over Jeffrey’s face that he was conflicted, but he was more loyal to his alpha, the lycan king than he was to his children.
I was dragged ahead of Tyler and from the ceiling, I knew I was heading towards the dining room, right where the Hunters’ scents were the strongest.
I was put in my usual seat and for the first time, saw the state of Addison’s entire family. They sat next to each other on the other side of the table. They all seemed weak, like they were on wolfsbane and couldn’t even sit upright as they coughed it
Dylan and Cole shot glares at me, but furrowed their eyebrows a little at the similar state I was in, especially when Tyler was brought in.
My parents were in their usual seats, their tones casual as they looked around the table.
“Everyone’s almost here,” my father said to the Hunters. “You’re lucky to have only received the first dose with your family. My sons have received it throughout the day.”
“Enough of this. What’s going on here? Why is my daughter out here?”

“Don’t worry,” my mother said. “She’s coming in just now. We just wanted her arrival to be special.”
“If you hurt my sister.” Dylan gritted his teeth.
She smiled in a sinister way. “A little wolf making threats…how ce.”
“What the fuck is going on here?” Cole spat with his strained voe
My father only lightly shook his head at Cole’s language, then intertwined his fingers in anticipation.

I didn’t want Addison to come to the dining room. I didn’t know what was in store for her. I wished I could have warned her in any way that I could.
“Even though the four of you have wolfsbane in your system,” n mother sneered, “you can still warn Addison not to come in here and I’m certain you’ve already done that, but why would she stay away when her family’s here?”
At lightning speed, Addison rushed into the dining room area, her sweat-drenched face red with fury.
She looked at her family first, then quickly glanced at me. It only made her more furious.
Her eyes then landed on my father, who leaned back in his seat and just watched her in silence.
“Glad you could finally join us. I see you got my invitation. Have a seat and let’s talk.”
“Why do you have my family here?”
“I just wanted to make this a family affair. After all, that’s what it is. I mentioned in the invitation that I’d tell you why you were banned and you’re about to find out.
I tried to warn her to stay calm using the mind link, but I wasn’t strong enough yet.
It seemed that her family was able to reach her since she glanced at her father, then took a seat right next to Cole.
“We’ve always been right about you,” Cole said to Jeffrey. “Just look at how pathetic you look, carrying out all the orders from your alpha.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being loyal to me. Isn’t that what happens in every pack?” My father chimed in. “I promised my son that I’d tell him why I had Addison banned from the competion and I plan on doing that over a meal, so bring it in.”
It was at that moment that I realized he was talking about dinner and not the breakfast we had earlier.
Dinner was served like nothing was wrong and it only made the tension worse.
Addison looked at me a few times, trying to connect with me but I still wasn’t strong enough to use my mind link. I was still glad that she could communicate with all her family members without the rest of us listening in.
Just as my parents were about to eat and were the only ones in the mood for that, Addison snapped, slamming her fists on the table.
“You’re wasting my fucking time!”
“Watch your tone before I rip you to shreds.” My father’s eyes glowed a bright red at her.
Faintly glowing his eyes right back at my father, Mr Hunter said Don’t talk to my daughter like that.”
“Know your place, Hunter,” Jeffrey stepped in. “You’re nothing here.”
As the two of them exchanged words, I tried to connect with Addison again and finally got through to her. I wasn’t so weak
anymore.

Then, there was a simultaneous and sudden change in her famils body language as they all seemed shocked at the same exact moment, looking a little furious before composing themselves.
“Hey, looks like we can use the mind link again.” Tyler said. “What’s going on with Addison and her family?”
“She just told them that we’re mates and have already bonded”
“It’s obvious that no one wants to speak out loud anymore,” my ther interrupted. “It’s finally time I talk about why Addison was banned. Simply put, there is a certain level in the competition that requires a full shift and you can’t do that.”
Hearts started racing, shocked that he knew about that.
