“She’s done so much for my family along with her mother. They’re the only reason why no harm has come to us. It just bothers me that your father hasn’t made a move yet.”

He smiled again, but it was different.

“Is everything okay?” I asked.

“Yeah, I just hate that we have to do things like this to stay out of sight. Enough about that. Tell me about your time at the school.”

“Right before I sensed you, Gina called. She confessed that she was the one who told Ruby.”

“How nice of her. Too bad it made no difference when it came to my father finding out. Jess was way ahead

of everyone else. Speaking of her, Tyler wants to introduce her to my parents tomorrow as the girl he likes. She’s confident that they’ll acknowledge her.”

“Because of how she helped expose me?” I scoffed. “Anyway, will you be there to witness it?”

“Of course.”

“At the palace?”

His heart skipped a beat. “Yeah.”

“It’s nothing.” He looked away.

“No.” I placed my hand on his cheek to meet his gaze. “What is it?”

He sighed, rubbing his hands on my shoulders. “My parents have carried on like nothing happened and the palace was restored to its full beauty.”

“I’m glad that bothers you. It bothers me too. Just be careful. I now believe they’re capable of anything after what they did to you and Tyler.”

“I just hope Tyler doesn’t get hurt in all of this. The moment I sense that something is off, I’m getting him far away from there. Enough about that.” He kissed the back of my hand. “How did it feel being at the school while in disguise?”

I sighed. “It was great because no one recognized me, but I was a little sad because that was the end of it. I can’t even entertain the idea of going to a new school until all of this is over and that might take a long time

She nodded.

“You can already defend yourself but I fear that one day, it won’t be enough. That’s why you shouldn’t get comfortable at this point. You need to keep going until you can master all four elements and shift.”
