Chapter 77. Ruthless
Chapter 77: Ruthless
Max
I should’ve known that my mother had it all planned out when she’d come to my room and Nora ended up in the dungeon. She’d counted on the fact that I was going to follow her to see what was going on with my own eyes and that ended up being a trap. Davina had cast a spell on me, one that had linked me to Nora in preparation for what Addison would see and I had no idea what it would be. I couldn’t even fight against it. When the link was successful and I looked into Nora’s eyes, I could see the change. Addison was there and one thing was for sure, she hated me. I could even see it through Nora’s eyes right before my father killed her.
Holding her heart in his hand, he casually said, “Jeffrey…”
“Yes, your majesty?” He stepped forward and did his best to make his voice sound steady, but his teary eyes gave it away that watching that scene had crushed him.
“Burn this corpse immediately,” my father said, tossing the heart across the room like he hadn’t just ended someone’s life.
Right before he headed out with my mother and Davina, he looked at me and nodded like he was proud. “That’ s how it’s done and you…made it way more satisfying.”
Davina followed right behind the two of them but as she walked past me, she snapped her fingers and I felt free again.
I should’ve left right away. But I couldn’t when I looked over and found Jeffrey loosening the chains while stepping in Nora’s pool of blood.
His shoulders trembled like he was still holding it in and as soon as her body began to drop to the floor, he delicately held her in his arms like he didn’t want to hurt her anymore, but we both knew that was impossible as there was no heartbeat.
He carried her broken body, crouching down in a corner to have one last look at her. He didn’t even care that her blood began to smear his clothes.
I always knew my father had a ruthless side to him, but I’d never seen it on display like that. It shouldn’t even have shocked me, but it did.
Jeffrey swallowed hard, like he was fighting harder to hold back his tears.
I balled my hands into fists as I approached him. “Did you know that Nora would be brought here and murdered?”
He only managed to respond by shaking his head.
“This is the alpha you serve. He knew how you felt about her but just didn’t care. He made sure to start with her because she missed out last time the Hunters were brought to the palace.”
His jaw clenched as he shut his eyes, like he wanted me to shut up and that one time, I was going to allow it, but it never happened. He just couldn’t get the words out.
I was about to turn around and leave when I sensed Beta Farris’s presence.
“Jeffrey, you’re still here?” he said with a tone of disbelief when he joined us in the dungeon. “Alpha Warrick told you to clean up.”
Jeffrey nodded in agreement. “I just need a moment.”
“A moment with that corpse?” Beta Farris scoffed like he was amused by the situation. “This is just the beginning and when it comes to you, the worst is over. You’ll get over it.”
He went on and on about what else was to come and said it right in front of me like Addison wasn’t my mate. It made me wonder what he had up his sleeves since he seemed to be deep in whatever my parents and Davina were planning.
Then, he turned towards me with a smile and anid, “Shouldn’t you be working on your speech for the

upcoming party? Your father mentioned you’d be in attendance this year along with Tyler. The warriors are already talking about how it’ll be a big deal having the lycan princes since it hasn’t happened in a long time.” As soon as he mentioned my brother, I was glad he hadn’t yet returned. I didn’t want him to be part of anything I’d just witnessed in that dungeon.
“I’ll work on it after this,” I said, trying to keep my tone polite even though my racing heart gave it away that I was furious.
“That’s great,” he said. “We expect great things from y-”
He stopped mid-sentence when a voice from outside shouted with panic. “A storm is coming! Brace yourselves!”
A storm? That made no sense. It had been sunny outside. I’d seen it from my bedroom.
I refused to believe it, so I rushed outside, slowing down as soon as I was in the front yard when a gust of wind hit my face hard.
The sky was still sunny and blue. At that moment, I didn’t have to think about it to know that it was Addison. I could feel and smell her in the air.
As far as I knew, she hadn’t been able to do that. She hadn’t even mentioned it at all when I’d met up with her. But losing her aunt must’ve awakened something in her.
From a distance, I could see the wide and towering wall of water approaching and violently sweeping away everything in its path.
Residents clamored as they rushed to get to safety, but some of them were swept away, their loved ones calling out their names in horror.
Seeing the magnitude of what was on the way to the palace made me worry. Had she lost control? Where was she? In the end, it didn’t matter the questions I had. We were all about to feel her wrath.
