Noelle looked at Lincoln standing at the door and felt like fate was playing a joke on her. She should've known; elite families were never that simple.
She got out of bed without a word as Lincoln thoughtfully pushed a wheelchair over.
"Thank you, but I don't need that," Noelle said. She followed Lincoln into the elevator, which took them to the upper floor. There were bodyguards stationed outside.
It was deep into the night, and Noelle found herself thinking about nothing at all. She arrived outside the intensive care unit and saw the grey-haired Anastasia lying in the hospital bed. She stepped in after putting on a sterile gown.
Anastasia opened her eyes and reached out a hand toward her. Noelle hesitated briefly before stepping closer. As she stood by the side of the bed, Anastasia took her hand.
Seeing as Anastasia had something to say, Noelle bent down and leaned in. "What would you like to tell me?"
"A beautiful child, indeed."
Slightly flattered, Noelle muttered, "Thank you for the compliment."
"I have a gift for you." As Anastasia spoke, she glanced at Lincoln by the door.
Lincoln immediately handed Noelle a file listing an extensive array of real estate, stocks, cash, and shares in the Greene Corporation. Noelle was utterly shocked by the number of properties listed but quickly grasped Anastasia's intent. So this was why she'd been called here alone tonight.
She turned back to Anastasia and softly muttered, "If you want me to break up with Cedric, you don't have to give me all this. You can just say so."
"You truly are an understanding child, but I don't have much time left… I won't be around to see…" Anastasia's words trailed off with violent coughs.
Noelle stepped forward and gently patted her chest. "Please take your time. I'm listening carefully."
