Noelle went straight to the restroom. As she washed her hands, she noticed Laura had followed her. She smiled and turned to look at the approaching Laura. "What a coincidence, Ms. Merlock."
"Not a coincidence. I came for you." Laura approached Noelle. As she looked at the latter, her mind filled with the image of Noelle sitting so close to Cedric earlier.
She pressed her lips into a smile. "I didn't expect you to be this capable, Ms. Liddell. You're young, yet you're already the chief technical engineer speaking on behalf of Maple Enterprise."
"Thank you for the compliment, Ms. Merlock." Noelle had no intention of wasting her time on such pleasantries.
But Laura wasn't willing to let go. "You should know that Mrs. Greene Senior doesn't like you and will never allow you two to be together. Ced has always obeyed her, and he's never gone against her wishes."
Noelle's eyes turned colder. "What exactly are you trying to say, Ms. Merlock? If you have anything to say, just spit it out. I have things to do."
"I'm reminding you; don't chase after unrealistic dreams. There's no way you two could ever be together unless you're content with being a mistress who can never see the light of the day."
At the word "mistress," Noelle laughed out loud. She stared straight at Laura. "Wasn't that who you wanted to be?"
As she stepped forward, Laura instinctively stepped back. "Y-You're talking nonsense. Cedric and I grew up together. We're practically childhood sweethearts…"
"Oh, please. Childhood sweethearts? Have you ever seen Cedric bother to respond? You must've been jealous when you found out we were dating, right? After all, you've never had the chance."
Laura's expression finally cracked. She snapped, "You think I'd be jealous of you, Noelle?"
"Of course. If you aren't, why did you steal Cedric's phone and claim you two were together? Mrs. Greene Senior was clearly in the hospital needing emergency care!"
Laura's face showed a flick of panic. "We were together… We were at the hospital together."
"But you claimed you were engaged the next day and told me to stop being a mistress when the whole engagement thing was a lie you made up. There was never anything official."
