Kieran POV
I know about the boy, Kieran. Her words echoed in my head and we both knew there was only one boy she was talking about. Asking her who she spoke about would have been insulting her intelligence.
She sidestepped my question and continued on the offensive. “He has no father on record. Before you say anything I have checked. There’s no name on the paperwork. Nothing that would hold up if anyone looked closely.”
I leaned against the table. “And you are saying that you did.”
“That goes without saying. I had to know what I was dealing with before coming here.”
She said it without apology. “You should be grateful I did.”
I watched her, trying to get a read on her. “What do you think you are getting into?”
“An omega with an ancient background is in your city, working in your company with a fatherless child. This is not going to be a scandal, when it boils over it’s going to be a power grab.”
“She hasn’t made a single claim.”
Rosaline swallowed a frustrated sigh. “She doesn’t have to make one. The circumstances doesn’t need her permission to make one.”
Something in me went very still. “Eli is not a weapon.”
She rubbed her forehead. “Sometimes you can be very simple. I never said…”
“He was born before the history with the Stone line.”
My voice stayed level, but there was an edge to it. “Whatever happened in the past will remain in the past. He isn’t going to be involved in whatever this is, so he can match the narrative you are trying to build.”
“I’m not trying to make a problem. I don’t want him to be a problem that the pack can’t manage.”
“He’s a child, Rosaline.”
She looked at me and I held her gaze till something I recognized passed between her eyes. I knew that look; it was the one she had when she believed a solution to the problem was obvious.
“You will have to protect your marriage then.”
“And I’m sure you have some tips no doubt.”
She stepped closer. “Yes, I have one. Get Denise pregnant.”
She didn’t just say that. I wanted to be certain I’d heard her correctly. “Say that again.”

“You need a successor. A child with Denise consolidates your position and removes all doubt about the line of succession even with Eli in the picture.
She spoke like she was outlining a business plan. “It’s not complicated, Kieran. It’s the obvious answer.”
“You want a child for political security?”
She scoffed. “I want you to protect what you’ve built.”
I retorted. “Those are two different things.”
She ignored my statement and continued. “Fire Alyssa before Denise finds out about the boy on her own and it becomes something you can’t control. Get it handled now, while you still have control of the
narrative.”
I stared at her. “You have it all figured out.”
“I was hoping you will be wise enough to do what needed to be done on your own.”
My eyes narrowed. “I got married, that should be enough.”
“Kieran-”
“Back off.”
The room went quiet. I hadn’t raised my voice, there wasn’t any need to.
Her face contorted into fury but not the loud, explosive outrage but something colder and restrained. She moved with the particular stillness she wore when a conversation wasn’t worth continuing.
She said quietly. “I’m doing all this because Scandals spread, and they take down more than the people who caused them.”
“Eli didn’t cause anything. He’s two.”
There was something soft in her eyes. “That won’t matter to the people who find him first.”
“Then that’s a reason to protect him and not discard him like trash.”
She held my gaze a moment longer and my set jaw told her the argument had reached its end, at least for tonight.
She brushed her dress. “This isn’t over yet.”
She left without an embrace or apology, just the sound of her heels against the floor and the front door closing behind her, quieter than I expected given the fight that just happened that.
I didn’t chase after her or call Denise. I didn’t call my father to compare what he’d told me against what my mother just had.
I stood there, one hand still resting on the desk, processing everything that I had learned this evening.
Denise still didn’t know the full story. Alyssa was here against her preference and mine because of work, Rosaline’s idea of a child for a succession plan and her warning about the destruction that the Stones had
