Kieran POV

I didn’t mean to sleep but I was too exhausted after the day’s toil. I slept off but never deep enough to rest. The couch was too short and the place was unfamiliar enough for my senses to switch off. My eyes kept opening and I stared at the ceiling.

The sudden knock on the door made me bolt upright, my senses alert. The second knock came before I crossed the living room.

I opened the door, my senses primed and alert for whatever was on the other side of the door.

Dante stood in the hallway. I watched him looked past me into the room to see the blanket on the couch, my jacket draped over the couch and watched his eyes twinkle with delight as he assembled the picture in real time.

His voice was icy cool. “You shouldn’t be here. What are you doing here?”

“That’s not your concern.”

He smiled slowly, evidently the expression of a man who stumbled on more than he was looking for.

“Don’t tell me you are cheating on your Luna already?” he said.

“Be careful.” I nearly growled at him.

Dante dismissed my warning. “Two months mated. That’s impressive, even for you.”

“You don’t know what you’re looking at.”

Of course he knew it. He wasn’t stupid!

“I’m looking at exactly what I need to know. You spent the night here and that’s what everybody will focus on when word gets around.”

I felt my chest tighten and loosen almost immediately. Explaining things to go would be meaningless and counterproductive because it would be giving him more ammunition to work with.

“Stay away from Alyssa and Eli. If I find out you’ve been anywhere near them…” I clenched my fists, eyes narrowed.

“Interesting… how protective you are of a woman you claim to be of no concern.”

“I said back away.”

“That won’t change what I know for a fact.”
