Though Caroline appeared to be a young woman, her mind was cunning and vicious—Ariana had a sharp eye for character. The fact that Caroline had dared to cause Fanny’s miscarriage revealed just how ruthless she truly was. Ariana had no intention of letting Kiara confront someone like her, so she pulled Kiara behind her and said coolly, “Today is my father’s birthday. Any other matters can be discussed another time. Since Miss Lohmann is a friend of Miss Harper, you may enter together.”
Caroline sneered, “It seems my good intentions have been misunderstood today.”
Clearly, Ariana wanted to brush the matter aside, but Caroline refused to let it go. She was determined to escalate the situation and embarrass Ariana publicly.
Fanny had seen enough.
She spoke coldly, “Miss Lohmann, this is someone else’s celebration.”
Hearing Fanny's voice, Caroline’s eyes glinted with even deeper malice. She tilted her head and said with a light laugh, “Oh? So, sister-in-law, you’re implying that I’m causing trouble on purpose? How hurtful. Do you dislike me so much that you seize every chance to mock me?”
Fanny was left speechless. Mock her? What had she even said?
Frustration boiled inside Fanny, who wished she could simply slap Caroline to vent her anger.
Damon’s expression remained neutral. “Caroline,” he said, “the Castro family is not under Maxwell’s control.” His tone was calm, his gaze steady, yet the intensity behind his words made Caroline freeze. She could tell he was serious.
Having spent years battling in the business world, Damon carried a far more imposing presence than Caroline, whose tricks were little more than petty mischief.
Caroline pressed her lips together.
Just as she was about to retort, she noticed Lambert standing behind Ariana. The sight of him fueled her hatred. Remembering how her eldest brother had been so upset he couldn’t eat and had been scolded by their father because of Lambert, Caroline felt a surge of malice.
Lambert met Caroline's gaze without a trace of fear.
He cast a brief glance her way before turning to Ariana. "What's going on?" he asked. Then, as if noticing Irene for the first time, his eyes narrowed instantly. His thin lips parted slightly as he uttered coldly, "Throw her out."
From the moment Lambert appeared, Irene’s eyes had remained fixed on him.
Her gaze was filled with a mix of grievance, pain, bitterness, and sorrow.
But all those emotions vanished the moment he spoke those words. Irene stared blankly at the man she had loved for years, seemingly unable to believe he could be so heartless.
Caroline had clearly heard it too.
Since she knew Irene, she was naturally aware of the history between Irene and Ariana.
A faint, mocking hum escaped her lips as she said, "Aren’t you going a bit too far, President Stone? This isn’t the Stone Corporation. Even if it were, there’s no rule about driving guests away."
Lambert shot her a sidelong glance and replied indifferently, "Throw her out too."
Caroline: "..."
Fanny was momentarily stunned, then struggled to hold back a laugh. Damon had initially frowned, wanting to remind Lambert that such behavior was inappropriate. But after catching Fanny’s amused expression, he kept his mouth shut. And as her laughter lingered, the icy chill that had long been hidden in Damon’s eyes began to thaw ever so slightly.
