Before I could make a decision, Alvise strode confidently to his car, unlocked it, and got in. The soft hum of the engine filled the air, cutting through the heavy silence.
eyes widened, and panic surged through me. Wait… He was going to run him over!
Before I could fully process what was happening, the car lurched forward at an alarming speed.
Henry, seemingly frozen in shock, stood rooted to the spot until Theo lunged forward and yanked him away at the very last second, saving both of them.
“Are you fucking mad?” Theo yelled, charging toward Alvise just as he stepped out of the car.
“Move out of my face,” Alvise instructed, his tone bored.
Theo stood his ground, refusing to move.
But just then, a group, or rather, an army of guards, all dressed in black suits, emerged from the huge SUV parked ashort distance away.
A shocked gasp escaped me. I really needed to start paying more attention to my surroundings. How had I missed that too
“Move away.” This time, one of the guards spoke.
I recognized him as the same man who’d asked me not to walk in the rain last week.
He gave Theo exactly one second to move before grabbing his arm and pulling him back.
Henry, who had been silent ever since he was almost run over, walked toward them. “Let him go right now.”
The guard raised a brow. “I do not take orders from you.”
Henry scoffed and glanced at Alvise. “Do you think your fucking security scares me?”
Alvise tilted his head to the side. “I don’t know… do they?” he asked, sarcasm dripping from every word.
“They don’t.”
Alvise nodded, “I’ll get your award ready.”
That seemed to rile Henry up even more. “I’ll have you know I’m not someone to mess with. I can have ten times these men,” he pointed at the guards, “here right now if I want to.”
Okay. This had gotten out of hand.
With shaky legs, I moved closer to them. “There’s no need for that.”
Henry turned to look at me, and his eyes softened. “I’m sorry you had to see me like this.”
Alvise leaned against the car, his muscles flexing as he folded his arms and watched us as though the entire scene amused
him.
Still… His eyes never once met mine.
“I promise, I’m not a violent man.”
Heat crept into my cheeks as Henry’s words sent another wave of discomfort crawling down my spine. Why was he telling me this?
“It’s… fine.”

Henry’s expression hardened as he shot Alvise a cold glare. “I don’t know who you are, but I’ll have you know the only reason I’m letting this die down is because of her.”
ng her as an excuse for chickening out.” Alvise nodded. “A page straight out of the classic handbook of weaklings.”
I flinched, Alvise’s words striking me even though they weren’t directed at me.
Henry, visibly furious, gritted his teeth, but as though thinking better of it, he shook his head and turned to me. “Let’s go.”
I didn’t even have time to process what was happening because he grabbed my hand and started pulling me away.
A guard immediately stepped in front of him.
“Why are you in my way?” Henry snapped.
The guard rolled his shoulders before clasping his hands in front of him, settling into an intimidating stance. “She stays behind.”
Theo scoffed and stepped up beside Henry. “And who decided that?”
The guard shrugged and jerked his head toward Alvise behind us. “Boss’s orders.”
