“He doesn’t get to decide shit,” Theo snapped. “Now get the fuck out of our way.”

My heart skipped its next beat, and I anxiously flicked my gaze toward Alvise. He was scrolling through his phone.. completely relaxed and utterly unbothered by the tension surrounding us.
Henry pulled out his phone. “It seems like I need to show exactly what I can do.”
I pulled my hand out of his. Please don’t. This is getting out of hand,” I pleaded.
“But I can’t leave you with them,” Henry said, his voice hard. “That’s not happening.”
I forced a smile. “It’s fine. You can go.”
Theo furrowed his brows. “What do you mean by that? They could hurt you.”
I let out a frustrated breath. I needed to reveal the truth before this spiraled any further. I couldn’t stomach the thought of a fight, especially not in front of my workplace.
“I… know him,” I said, my voice breaking.
A look of confusion flashed across Henry’s face. “I know you’re just saying that because you don’t want trouble.”
I shook my head. “No. I actually know him.” I stole another glance at Alvise. He was looking at me now, his eyes so intense I had to look away. “He’s my boss.”
Theo snorted. “And you just thought to tell us this now?”
Annoyed, I glared at him. “I don’t remember anyone asking me anything or giving me the chance to speak since this started!” My voice came out so sharp that I even startled myself.
Henry hissed. “Theo, go to the car. I warned you to stop taking jabs at her.”
Almost reluctantly, Theo walked away.
Henry cleared his throat. “I’m sorry about that… and for whatever happened here.” He stepped closer and lowered his voice so only I could hear. “I hope this doesn’t affect your job. And if it does, I’ll get you a new one.”
I furrowed my brows, but I didn’t have enough time to process his words because he pecked my cheek. “I’ll see you again.” Then he turned and walked away.
I stood frozen, confused, and more than anything, shocked. My cheek still tingled, and I had the overwhelming urge to wipe away the kiss, but I forced my hands to remain at my sides because could feel the weight of Alvise’s gaze burning into me.
Slowly, I turned around, my eyes clashing with his.
His jaw was hard as he pushed away from the car and stepped closer.
My heart pounded erratically as he raised his hand, and before I could predict what he was about to do, his thumb brushed over the exact spot where Henry’s lips had touched.
My skin ignited beneath his touch, sending a wave of heat rushing through me. My head suddenly felt light as his hand lingered against my cheek, a shiver racing down my spine.
“You’ll never speak to him again,” Alvise said, his accent thick with anger and edged with quiet authority.
