I smoothed my hand over my champagne-lace silk maxi dress and turned to look at Sierra. “I don’t think I want to do this anymore.”
“You will, and you are.” She said, grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the elevator as the doors slid open.
She’d rushed to Archie’s apartment just to help me get ready and make sure I didn’t back out at the last minute. That was wishful thinking on her part because I almost backed out.
Many times.
“This is going to be great.” She said, handing me my purse. “And you’re going to be glad you went.”
“You think so?”
“I know so,” she whispered, pulling a strand of hair that had escaped from my messy bun back into place. “You look gorgeous… insanely beautiful.”
A blush crept up my cheeks. “Thank you.”
“Now.” She held my palm in hers. “It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t even have to like him.” She shrugged. “If he’s not the one, you can go on dates with other people.”
I opened my mouth to protest, but she shook her head. “It’s about time you remembered you’re an adult! Like I said before, LIVE!”
I sighed. “You’re good at this motivation thing. Maybe a little too good.”
Sierra slipped her hands into mine and led me outside the building. “The honor is mine.”
I giggled, but it died the moment my eyes caught Henry leaning against a black Lamborghini.
Sierra leaned in. “He might have a thing for cars, but… I mean… why a Lamborghini for a first date?”
I bit my lip to hide the laugh that threatened to escape. “What? Aren’t you the one that’s been campaigning for him?”
“Well… I’m just saying.”
I rolled my eyes. “It’s too late to backtrack now, so let’s go.”
She pulled her hands from mine. “Oh, nope!”
