“What do you mean?” I whisper-yelled, rushing my words as I spotted Henny walking towards us. “Aren’t you coming with?”

“I never said I was! It’s not going to be an actual date if I’m there with you!” She said through her teeth while smiling just as Henry reached us.

“Ladies,” he said, flashing a smile. “Good evening.”

He gently grabbed my hand and kissed it. “You look beautiful.”

I gently pulled my hand away and smiled. “Thank you.”

“Okay, I’ll leave you two alone now.” Sierra said, and before I could stop her, she rushed towards a waiting car I recognised as belonging to her boyfriend.

all we?” Henry asked.

I nodded and let him take my hand as he led us to the car.

“Good evening.” Theo said once we settled into the backseat.

My eyes met his through the rearview mirror. “Good evening, Theq,” I said, maintaining the same cold tong he’d used to greet me.

He didn’t like me, I could tell. And quite frankly, the feeling was mutual.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a woman as pretty as you.”

I turned to look at Henry, and a stupid blush stained my cheeks. “Th… thank you.”

“I love your smile.” He said, his eyes trailing over my face.

I was beginning to think I blushed whenever I was uncomfortable because, though his words made me uncomfortable, another blush stained my cheeks. I looked away before he could get the wrong idea.

My mind was racing abnormally fast, so much that I zoned out for the entire ride until the car finally pulled to a stop and I turned to look around.

Everything stilled except for my heart. I turned to Henry. “Is this the restaurant?”

He nodded. “Yes, it is. Shall we?”

I couldn’t do this.

This was Alvise’s restaurant… The same Chinese restaurant he had bought food from for me.

I loved the food… It wasn’t about the food. What were the chances I’d run into him today? Would I care if I did? Would I care if I did?

I was suddenly panicking, and I dug my nails into my palm.

“Is everything okay?” Henry asked. “You’re shaking.”

I froze and glanced at my hands. They were shaking.

I shook my head. “I’m fine. I just suddenly felt cold,” I lied.

“Oh.”

He tried to take off his jacket, but I placed my hand over his. “Oh no… I’m fine. It’s warm in the restaurant.”

He raised a brow. “Are you sure?”

“Yes. I’ve eaten here before.”

Henry hissed. “And here I was trying to make sure the restaurant I chose would be a new experience for you.”

That piqued my interest. “Really? Why?”

“When your friend told me you loved Chinese food, I wanted to pick the best restaurant for you.” He nodded towards the restaurant. “I’ve heard good reviews about this place. And it’s new, that’s why I picked it because I assumed you hadn’t been

here yet.”

uld only focus on the first thing he said. “Wait… By my friend, you mean…”

“Sierra.” He said. “The one we met moments ago.”

“Right…” I furrowed my brows. “When did she tell you I liked Chinese food?”

Henry scratched the back of his head. “I contacted her so I could get an idea of what you like.”

I blinked. “And how did you contact…” I folded my arms and eyed him. “Let me guess, your…”

“Private investigator.” He nodded, smiling. “You’re right.”

I rolled my eyes and glared at him. He led me to our table inside the restaurant and asked me to order for both of us.

I did, and while we were waiting for our food, we chatted a little, and he asked me about my job.

“So, did you get in trouble with your boss after what happened?” He asked, sipping on his glass of wine,

He was referring to Alvise. I shook my head, uncomfortable with the topic. “No, I didn’t…”

My words hung in my throat as a prickling sense of alertness hit me.

The hairs on the back of my neck rose, a shiver trailing up my spine and sending goosebumps across my arms.

I snapped my head back, and my eyes clashed with fiery depths of blue already looking at me.

His face, standing out in the crowd, wore a blank expression as his eyes darted from me to the person behind me, before landing back on me.

And then, even though it disappeared as quickly as it appeared, his eyes narrowed and his jaw hardened.

Shit.
