Meeting The Fiancée

ARABELLA’S POV

I would argue that I didn’t know what it felt like to want to disappear and never be found until that moment.

She was stunning, and her walk was graceful, her head held high, like she had already placed herself above everyone in the

room.

She was wearing a blue vintage Chanel skirt and jacket, the colour contrasting perfectly with her pale skin. As she approached our table, a smile appeared on her lips, her eyes fixed solely on Alvise.

“Baby.” She hummed, tapping him lightly from behind.

Alvise stilled, and then he turned around, giving her all his attention. “How was your flight?” he asked, grabbing her hand and kissing it.

I couldn’t breathe. I almost choked on air if not for Sierra’s hand that found its way to my back, lightly patting it.

I watched, stunned and helpless, as she hugged him and kissed his cheek. “It was lovely, baby,” she said, pouting. “Thank you for sending the jet.”

Alvise nodded, “And how is home?”

“Same as always. But I missed you. So much!”

Alvise turned back to the table, “This is my fiancée, Tatiana.”

“Nice to meet you!” Tatiana said, her accent quite similar to his.

Archie stood up, “I finally got to meet you!” he said. “I almost gave up.”

Tatiana laughed lightly, covering her mouth like a proper lady would. “My fiancé is quite a private man.” She looked around. gesturing towards the packed hall. “As ironic as that is.”

“Hi,” Francesca said, standing too. “Nice to meet you.”

Her voice wasn’t as chirpy as it always was, and I immediately knew she was pissed. Francesca wanted Alvise for herself and found it hard to process that another woman thought she deserved him.

Just by seeing Tatiana, she already felt like a threat had been made to her relationship with him. The nonexistent relationship she would kill to sustain.

I scoffed at the thought. It felt like I was being a hypocrite because somewhere in my head, I already saw Tatiana as a threat. I didn’t like that part of me. The part that felt things like that.

“Is something the problem?”

I looked up to see Tatiana staring at me condescendingly.

I frowned. What was the problem? “Excuse me?”

“You made that obnoxious sound just now,” she said. “I’m asking why you did that.”

Oh. I must have scoffed louder than I’d imagined in my head..

“There’s no problem,” I said, forcing a smile.

She didn’t return it.

face fell, and I wiped the smile away. I tried to offer an olive branch, but it was immediately denied. There was nothing els could do.

“I’m Tatiana!” she said, looking from me to Sierra. “You both haven’t introduced yourselves.” She glanced at Alvise. “Baby… are the manners here different?”

“How insulting,” Sierra whispered, hissing harshly.

“You’re right,” I said. “Where are our manners?” I turned to Sierra, signalling her to play along. “This is Sierra, my best friend.” I gestured towards her. “And I am Arabella.”

Her eyes sparked the moment I said my name, and I thought I saw her jaw harden. “Arabella,” she said, tilting her head to the side. “Nice to meet you.”

I also introduced Sierra to her. Why was she more interested in who I was?

Alvise glanced at his wristwatch, “I have to finish up here before we head to my place.”

His place.

My chest hurt. Everything hurt. He was doing this right in front of me, as if he wanted me to see.

I shouldn’t care. I didn’t care… Right?

So why was I feeling so agitated? Like he was stomping all over my heart. It was stupid, really. I was stupid. I needed to get it together.

“It’s fine, baby,” Tatiana said, pulling out an empty chair from our table. “I’ll wait for you.”

Alvise raised a brow, “You’re not tired?”

“I’m not,” she said, flashing him a smile.

Nodding in response, Alvise patted Archie on the shoulder, then walked away, his security guards trailing behind him.

“So,” Tatiana glanced around the table, “How is London like?”

“You’ve never been to London?” Archie asked, taking a seat.
