Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 168
I was sure, definitely sure, that I’d seen blood on Alvise’s knuckles. And not just that, it wasn’t his.
I’d been unable to go back to eating after that. My eyes kept drifting to his hands, and at some point, he caught on to it.
Our eyes met, and in the most unnerving way, he nodded toward my food, gesturing for me to eat.
I didn’t know if it was fear, confusion, or both, but I quietly resumed eating, shoving the food that suddenly tasted like cardboard into my mouth.
I went to bed thinking about the blood on his hands, and I woke up even more confused than I had been before going to sleep.
“You’ve been biting that pen so hard, I’m surprised it hasn’t broken.”
I looked up, shocked to see Sierra standing in front of my desk.
I’d woken up late, but I was able to get dressed and get to work on time. “Tha’ts because the pen was made for situations like this,” I said to her.
She shook her head and walked back to her own desk. “I can tell something is bothering you.”
I sighed. “Don’t worry, Sierra. I’m fine.”
She opened her mouth to speak, but approaching footsteps made her pause.
“Arabella Whitmore,” Leah said as she walked into our office. “You’re being summoned.”
I frowned. “Summoned?”
“You heard me.” She folded her arms and then turned to Sierra. “I’m taking my leave now, before you get the twisted idea that I’m obsessed with you.”
“Just leave already,” Sierra groaned. “Your presence already exhausts me.”
Leah huffed and walked out, but not before flipping her the middle finger,”
“I can’t catch a break in this company,” I said, standing up.
“You’re stronger than I am,” Sierra said. “I would have given up and eloped somewhere by now.”
I walked to the door and gave her a blank look. “You work here too, remember?” Then I exited the office.
My steps slowed when I reached the hallway and found Leah waiting for me, a huge grin plastered across her face. “They’re waiting for you in the conference room.”
“They?” Alarm shot through me, but I kept walking nonetheless, wary of what was waiting for me with every step I took.
Pushing the door open, I stepped into the conference room and paused.
Sitting at the head of the table was my boss, Christian, but on each side of him sat Tatiana and her sister.
I blinked once, then twice, hoping I was hallucinating.
