care for either of them, but I was now getting dragged into their twisted dynamic. Viktoriya looked terrified of her sister, but not enough to tell her the truth.
Thy could only mean she had something to hide.
Was she having an affair with Alvise?
My stomach dipped at the possibility, but I quickly shoved the thought away. Alvise wouldn’t stoop that low. Or would he? r wasn’t sure about anything or anyone anymore.
I remembered where I was and cleared my throat. “Fabricated? Oh well, I guess I’m the liar then.”
“You are. And I’ll make sure you pay for it.”
“Don’t you think you’re a bit too confident for someone who is so deceitful?” I said, eyeing her. Turning to Viktoriya, I smiled. It was as fake as the first Louis Vuitton heels I was gifted in high school. “I wish you a happy married life in advance.”. I chuckled. “If you get to the altar before your sister, that is.”
Tatiana stepped forward, and before I could move back, she reached for my hair and yanked it backwards, sending jolts of pain across my scalp.
“Are you sure my sister is the only one I should be wary of?”
“Let…” I hissed, the pain almost unbearable as I struggled to pry her fingers from my hair. “… Me go. Let me go!”
“I know you like him,” Tatiana said, her voice thick with rage. “I’ve seen the way you look at him… how nervous you are around him… I’ve seen it all!” Her nostrils flared. “Viktoriya told me all about it, but I assumed it was just an exaggeration. I mean, I thought to myself, ‘Who would dare want what’s mine?’ But you do! And it’s a shame you don’t know what I’m capable of.”
Her words sent a cold shiver down my spine as I stared into her eyes. She looked like she was on the verge of killing me right there and then. My eyes drifted to Viktoriya, who now looked like she was having a panic attack.
In that moment, it all finally made sense.
Tatiana wanted her sister to keep an eye on the women around Alvise, to stop them from getting close to him, but Viktoriya herself had gone on to fall for him. Yet she was too terrified of her own sister to admit it.
I was snapped back to reality when the pain in my scalp became too much to handle. With all my strength, I shoved at her shoulders, pushing her back until she missed a step, only to be caught by her sister.
“How many times do I have to tell you to get your hands off me?”
“How dare you!” Viktoriya snapped. “Count your fucking days.”
I blinked, not sure I’d heard her right. How deranged were these girls? Why did they throw threats around so casually, like it was a normal part of their lives? Sure, I could tell they came from a rich family, but surely, rich people followed the law too, \right?
“Jail is a real place, girl,” I said, chuckling lightly. “So ease up on the threats.”
Tatiana clicked her tongue and tilted her head to the side. Her eyes remained fixed on mine, and the smile that slowly curved her lips sent another wave of unease through me.
“I will kill you, dump your body and throw a party on top of it, and no one will bat an eye.”
