hypocrite to do that when Alvise and I had history.. a history I was desperately trying to forget

would be a fool to think I could get in the middle of two sisters. This was a setup.

“No. I have no reason to want to help you,” I said. “And whatever happens between you and your sister is none of my business.”

“Is that because you want him?” Tatiana questioned, her tone now harsh. “I know you want to be in my position.”

A retort sat at the tip of my tongue, but I held it in. She was right. I wanted her fiancé at some point, but that was before he was her fiancé. Whether I wanted him now or not, I had no idea.

“I know why he took you off the project,” Tatiana scoffed. “Don’t you want to know why?”

A heavy weight settled on my chest, making my body so weak that I leaned back against the headboard. How did she know Alvise took me off the project?

My stomach sank. Was he discussing me with her? Giving her enough information to ridicule me?

“You’ve gone real quiet, right?” Tatiana said triumphantly. “If you want the information you seek, meet me at the address In sending to you. Now.”

And then she ended the call.

My phone dinged with a notification right after. A message from Tatiana. I tapped on the notification, and an address appeared on the screen.

I threw my phone back onto the nightstand and laid back in bed. I wasn’t going to go, right?

No, I wasn’t.

I stopped in front of the large restaurant doors, contemplating my decision one last time.

I shouldn’t be here.

I had no business seeing Tatiana for any reason, and I’d promised myself I wouldn’t come to see her… so why was I here, standing outside the address she’d sent?

A little part of me told me it was because of Alvise. I wanted to know why he really took me off the project and why Tatiana even knew about it.

Shaking off the doubtful thoughts and uncomfortable knot in my stomach, I pushed the door open and walked into the

restaurant.

It was a crowded restaurant, with people walking around every second and the staff rushing around with trays of food. I hadn’t expected her to choose such a public place. I’d imagined she would want to stay under the radar.

I spotted Tatiana sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant and approached her.

“You’re late,” she said, looking up from her phone.

“I almost cancelled,” I said, taking a seat opposite her. “So, why did Alvise take me off the work project?”

She scoffed. “Alvise? What makes you think you can be on a first name basis with my fiancé?”

“I didn’t come here to discuss this with you, Tatiana. Get to the point,” I said impatiently, the knot in my stomach tightening even faster.

Tatiana’s eyes turned watery, tears welling up in them.

brows drew together, confusion flickering through me. What was wrong with her? What was she doing?

“Why are…” Tears dropped from her eyes, a loud sob escaping her lips.

My eyes widened. “You’re crying?”

55 vouche

Tatiana sniffed so loudly I flinched, and without holding back, her voice loud and vulnerable, she yelled. “Why would you sleep with my fiancé?”
