Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 188
I blinked, my gaze dropping to my body.
Bile rose into my throat, and I clamped my mouth shut to stop the vomit I felt coming.
There was blood. So much blood. But why didn’t I feel any pain?
Why was I still alive?
I looked up at him. “I’m bleeding,” I whispered, my voice shaking.
“It’s not your blood, madam,” the security guard said, pulling what looked like a burned phone from his pocket.
“Whose blood is it?” I asked, my chest heaving up and down from the rush of adrenaline.
“The man who tried to kill you,” he mumbled, and then he started speaking into the phone in a language I didn’t understand.
My eyes darted toward the body lying several feet away, and the lump in my throat finally gave way.
I gagged, crouching down as I emptied everything I had eaten for breakfast onto the floor, my body jerking uncontrollably with every heave.
Theo’s body lay in a pool of his own blood, his eyes bloodshot and a bullet lodged in his skull.

Unable to take in the sight any longer, I looked up.

the entrance of the company, people had gathered, while several security men formed a barricade to stop them from coping any closer.
My head went fuzzy, my already-blurry vision worsening with every passing second.
Before everything went completely blank, I saw a man in a navy suit walking toward me.
I jerked awake when something touched my forehead.
“Oh my God! Be careful, Arabella.” Sierra’s voice rang out, making me snap my eyes open.
My eyes found hers, and a huge smile immediately appeared on her face.
“She’s awake!” she squeaked, grabbing my hands and kissing them repeatedly.
I sat up on the bed, grateful that I didn’t have a throbbing headache this time..
Certain memories rose to the surface, threatening to break through, but I refused to let my mind go there.
I bit my lip and looked around the room.
Archie sat on an armchair, his head buried in his palms as he let out a long, exhausted breath.
He finally looked up, and when our gazes clashed, I saw the sadness and exhaustion in his eyes.
“Arabella,” he breathed, rubbing his palm over his face. “I’m sorry.”
I frowned. “Why are you apologizing?”
“I couldn’t protect you… I haven’t been protecting you.” Archie’s voice rasped. “I’ve failed you.”
Tears gathered in my eyes, and without holding back, I broke into a sob.
Sierra’s arms wrapped around me, holding me close to herself, but all I could do was stare at my brother.
He thought he’d failed me? It couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I was the one who had failed him because of my poor decisions. He’d done nothing but protect me.
“Archie…” My voice was barely audible. “Please don’t say that. There has never been a day in my life when you’ve failed me.”
He buried his head between his legs and propped his elbows on his knees.
He looked broken. So broken that I couldn’t just sit there and watch him suffer.
I released myself from Sierra’s hold and rushed toward him, falling to my knees in front of him.
“There is no way you would have known that would happen, Archie,” I said, grabbing his hand. “You can’t follow me everywhere.”
He looked up, his eyes so red, I was sure he was on the verge of a breakdown.
“If I didn’t fail you as a brother, you would have told me there was someone out there trying to kill you.”
I shook my head. “No, Archie. I didn’t know it was this serious. I…”

He pulled his hand away and stood up, moving away from me as if he couldn’t bear to look at me.

dn’t, Arabella!” he yelled, his voice making me flinch. “I didn’t know that psychopath came to the house on my birthday! You didn’t tell me!”
I closed my eyes, refusing to watch my brother this way.
I couldn’t stop shaking.
He probably resented me… and he had every right to. How would he react when he found out how many secrets I’d kep from him?
Would he hate me? Would he never speak to me again?
I broke into another sob, my lips trembling.
“Calm down, Archie. You’re scaring her,” Sierra rushed to kneel on the floor beside me, pulling my hair away from my face.
I heard him inhale sharply before he walked out of the room.
“Arabella… please stop crying… don’t do this to me.” Sierra hugged me, burying her head against my shoulder.
“Who… brought me here?” I asked between sobs.
“Alvise did…” she replied. “He also called in a nurse who helped me bathe you and get all the blood off your body,” she explained.
I sniffed, refusing to believe he’d done all that. “That’s a lie.”
Sierra chuckled lightly. “I wish it was.” Her voice dropped to a whisper. “He almost turned the city upside down.”
