Ruined By My Brother’s Best Friend

His Visit

ARABELLA’S POV

I turned to look at my best friend, more tears spilling from my eyes even as she wiped them from my face.

“You don’t have to say all this just to make me feel better, Sierra.” I laughed bitterly. “I don’t want to think about him.”

“I’m not saying this just to make you feel better.” She informed me. “After we heard the gunshot, everyone ran outside, but they were blocked by his security. Only Alvise was allowed to come anywhere near the scene. After I saw him taking you to his car, I pushed past the security guards and ran after him, insisting that I follow him.” She shivered and shook her head. “I was so scared, Arabella.” She confessed. “He drove at an alarming speed, and once we got here, he carried you up the elevator himself.”

I struggled to believe Alvise had actually done all that… for me. Searching Sierra’s face, I noted how serious she looked, not a trace of humour visible in her expression.

“Where is he now?” I asked, holding my breath as I waited to hear her reply.

“He left immediately after Archie arrived, and they spoke outside.” She said, “Archie was pretty upset with Alvise for not telling him about that Theo guy visiting.”

I leaned back against the armchair and closed my eyes. This was the third time I’d escaped from a life-threatening situation in under six months.

I’d had nightmares while unconscious. Nightmares filled with Theo’s sadistic smile, his dead body and even Christian’s face.

I was also responsible for Theo’s death. Two men who had helped me when I was stranded had lost their lives because of me. There was no excuse.

I was the problem.

“You didn’t tell me either, Arabella.”

I opened my eyes and glanced at Sierra. “I… I’m sorry. I didn’t want to bother any of you…”

“You could never be a bother to me or your brother. How many times do I have to tell you this, Arabella?” Sierra complained, rubbing her temples. “You can tell me anything. ANYTHING!”

I laid my head on her lap and released a breath I had no idea I’d been holding. I don’t know how long I stayed like that, but it was long enough to fall asleep.

Three days later, I sat on the living room’s couch, scrolling through my phone absentmindedly,

My work had given me two weeks off after what happened, and according to Sierra, it was still the topic of discussion at

work.

People were wondering why Theo wanted to kill me, while others were surprised that I’d survived.

I spent the past three days surviving the most traumatic nightmares and asking so many questions, only to end up more confused.

Why was Theo missing a leg when I saw him? How did the security guard save me in time?

Nothing made sense, so I just settled for feeding into my delusions. All I wanted to do from here onward was pretend I hadn’t witnessed a man get killed and that I wasn’t the reason he was killed.
