Not Leaving
ABELLA’S POV

I scrunched my face up, my stomach tightening. “What do you mean I’m not leaving?” I asked, confused.
He had to be joking.
The moment I caught sight of Sierra, I was going to leave with her and pretend today never happened HA could go back to being whoever he was, and I would return to my miserable life and keep hoping that one day, my brother would come back into my life.
Alvise looked as though he could read all my thoughts because, with each passing second, his eyes flashed with a hint of displeasure.
“Exactly what I said.” He rasped, his tone leaving no room for argument.
I took a step back. “Do you plan on locking me in the warehouse forever?”
“Don’t be ridiculous.”
“Then why can’t I leave?” I choked out, “I don’t want to stay here.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Alvise snapped impatiently. “You’re not staying here, but you’ll be coming with
me.”
I shook my head and tried to sidestep him. “Don’t bother. I can find my way back to the city myself.”
Alvise grabbed my waist, stopping me from moving past him. “I know you can, but you’re still coming with me.”
Alarm shot through me, and I brushed off his touch, taking conscious steps backward until my back hit the SUV, putting some distance between us so I could think properly.
“Why would I want to follow you anywhere? I don’t want to.”
“You don’t have to be willing, but you will only leave here with me, Arabella.”
“Are you threatening me?”
Alvise moved forward, stalking towards me. “Take it as whatever you want.”
I gritted my teeth and looked around us, the air in my lungs drying up at the sight of some of his men lined outside the warehouse and the knowledge that the others were still inside.
There was no way I was escaping here without being found immediately, and that was if I even managed to escape in the first place.
“Where are you taking me to?” I snapped harshly, unable to hold back my displeasure any longer.
Alvise hummed and raised a brow. “I’m not answering anything asked in that tone.”
I bit my inner cheek and balled my hands into fists at the pain of the sharp sting that followed.

I forced a smile, intentionally making it look as fake and obnoxious as possible. “May I kindly know where you’ll be taking me?”
“Much better.” Alvise praised in satisfaction, “and to answer your question, I’ll be taking you to the apartment I bought you.” His voice took on a displeased edge. “The same one you have refused to visit for over two weeks.”
I snorted and folded my arms, looking at anything but him. I was aware he bought me an apartment, but I never bothered to go see it in order to protect my mental health.
How could I accept something from a man who didn’t just abandon me in London when I felt I needed him the most, but was also a man who had been planning his wedding with my mortal enemy while simultaneously making me feel like he was my safe space?
I’d wanted nothing to do with him two weeks ago, especially nothing to do with anything that belonged to
him.
I’d prepared to stay in a hotel since my old apartment was unsafe, but Sierra refused and insisted I stay with her instead. So, I’d been living with her ever since while hunting for a new apartment.
“I’m not following you to that apartment, Alvise.”
He glanced at his wristwatch. “I didn’t ask.”
My heart skipped its next beat as the realization that he was extremely serious hit me.
“If you’re worried I’m going to rat you out to the police, that isn’t going to happen,” I said, trying to bail myself out.
His blue eyes sought mine, and a trace of amusement passed through them. “Worried?” He poked his inner cheek with his tongue. “Never.”
I struggled to pick up on what he meant until it became clearer.
He wasn’t scared of the police finding out.
I mean, how could he be? The last time we were at a police station, the officers looked scared when they heard he was on his way and practically let us walk out freely, even though I was arrested for attempted
murder.
The truth had been right in front of me even then. How did I not see it?
“Just let me go.” I pleaded desperately, “I know you’re not worried, but please release Sierra to me so we can leave. I promise you’ll never have to hear from me again.”
“No.” Alvise said, turning around and heading toward the warehouse.
My face fell, and I moved to follow him, but the guards from earlier reappeared by my side.
“Why would you say no?” I yelled after him, frustrated. “I’m literally begging you!”
I watched him walk into the warehouse without sparing me a glance.
My chest heaved up and down at the thought of what being at his mercy meant. I didn’t like it one bit.

Looking around once again, I finally paid proper attention to our surroundings and realized we were practically in the middle of a forest, with no sight of any other building or human being close by.
I’d considered running away, but aside from the fact that I couldn’t afford to leave Sierra all by herself to call for help, I didn’t want to risk getting lost in the forest and probably getting kidnapped or hunted by animals.
I had to pick the lesser of two evils, and unfortunately, Alvise was the pick.
Like I’d summoned him with my thoughts, Alvise walked out of the warehouse with his men trailing behind him. My eyes fixed on one of them carrying Sierra in his arms, and I pushed past the guards and
rushed toward them.
I frantically searched her body, my heart almost lurching out of my chest as worrying thoughts filled my mind.
“Why is she unconscious?” I asked impatiently. “Is she okay…?”
“She is fine.” Alvise snapped, “she was sedated, and you will be too if you don’t calm the fuck down.”
