Dress Fit For A Bride
ARABELLA’S POV

He was just teasing me… I knew that was what it was, but it didn’t stop the embarrassment that flooded my whole body and made me bury my head into my palms.
If he wanted to shut me up, he had definitely succeeded because I no longer had anything to say.
I was so determined not to make eye contact with him as he sat on the couch opposite me that I lay on the bed and turned to face the roof.
I don’t know how long I stayed that way, but it was long enough for me to fall asleep with a dull pain throbbing in my arm.
“Arabella?”
My eyes snapped open, alarmed as I felt someone’s palm on my
face.
Blue eyes stared back at me with raised brows and I relaxed, but narrowed my eyes. “Were you watching me sleep?” I shook my head. “That’s weird.”
Alvise removed his hand from my face like it had burned him and walked back to sit on the couch. “You were snoring.”
I scoffed. “Even if I woke up with memory loss, you could never convince me that I was a snorer.”
“Confident, I see. But you could be wrong.”
“I’m positive I’m not.” I yawned, sitting up and stretching my hands, but wincing when I accidentally brushed my injured arm with my palm.
“You need to be careful with that.” Alvise warned, displeased. “If you rupture your stitches again, you might need to amputate that arm.”
I blinked, pure terror snatching the air from my lungs. “What?” My eyes widened in shock. “Are you serious? Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?”
Alvise rubbed his hand over his jaw, his eyes dancing with dark amusement. “I just made that up.”
My mouth fell open, but no words came out. I could only glare at him and shake my head.
A light feeling fluttered in my stomach, goosebumps of warmth coating my skin as a small smile appeared on my lips. It felt weird to talk to him casually, like he was normal for the first time… approachable.
But dread soon replaced the flutter in my stomach. A few seconds of conversation couldn’t drown out the fact that he had hurt me severely.
I was on a jet headed to a place I would have preferred to die than go to because of the fear I had for the people there. And the worse part? He hadn’t even let me say goodbye to my best friend.

I know I pissed him off by trying to run away, but what would I have done? Sit back and watch him dictate my life?
jet lands in two hours.” Alvise said, cutting into my thoughts.
My heart skipped its next beat, and I looked up to see Alvise already watching me. “Two hours?
“You slept through most of the flight.” Alvise pointed out, grabbing his phone from the couch and typing on it.
I glanced at my body and sighed. My clothes were rumpled, and I’m sure after sleeping for so long. I looked like shit. I needed to shower, brush my teeth, and then eat.
Food. The thought of food made my stomach twist uncomfortably. I’d gone so long without eating that I was beginning to question how I had even survived.
If my calculations were right, it would have been over a day since I last ate something. I felt very weak, and when I stood up, I almost lost my footing.
Steadying myself, I looked at Alvise. “Where is the bathroom? And can I get a change of clothes, please?”
He glanced up from his phone and searched my face for some time before he got up. “Follow me.”
I trailed behind him until we got to the restroom, and then he opened the door for me. “I’ll ask someone to bring you clothes.” He said before walking away.
I breathed a sigh of relief and closed the door, taking in deep breaths and slowly exhaling.
I couldn’t believe that this was really happening. I was actually going to land in Russia in two hours.
I didn’t let the thought consume me and decided to search the luxurious bathroom for a toothbrush. Luckily, I found a pack of unused ones and some toothpaste. Once I was done brushing my teeth, I showered and washed my hair.
I was drying my hair with a towel when I heard a knock on the door. After making sure the towel I was wrapped in was secure, I walked to the door and opened it.
It was the same lady who packed my suitcase. She glared at me in obvious disgust before shoving the clothes into my hands.
“Have some shame, will you?” She looked me up and down and shook her head. “I’m sure you thought the Pakhan was the one coming to open the door, and that’s why you’re only in a towel. He’s a man about to be married, why would you!”
I gave her a blank look. “Of course. After showering, I should have worn my old clothes while waiting for a change of clothes.” I snickered, shutting the door in her face.
I held up the atrocity of a dress she brought me and huffed in disbelief. It was a long white dress, so long I could be mistaken for a bride, with full-length sleeves and a round neck. As if that wouldn’t cover me up enough, she also brought a jacket.
I guess I was supposed to wear it so I wouldn’t “seduce” her madam’s fiancé.
Ridiculous.

The only thing that made me not curse her while wearing the dress was that it wasn’t ugly, even though she probably wanted it to be.
I threw the jacket in the bin and ran my hands through my hair to smoothen it out before leaving the bathroom.
Alvise was still on his phone when I walked past him to sit on the bed, and to catch his attention, I cleared- my throat.
He looked up, his brow raised in question, and I bit my lip. “I’m hungry.”
“You’ll get food soon.” He said, his eyes straying from my face and roaming my body for a split second before he looked away and rubbed his thumb over his lip.
“Arabella?” He said quietly, his cool voice sending a tremor through my spine.
I blinked. “Yes?”
“What the fuck are you wearing?”
