Landed In His Country

ABELLA’S POV

His question made my ears ring, and I had to glance down at the dress to see if there was a stain.

“A dress.” I replied, confused. “What’s the problem?”

Alvise tapped a finger against his phone and scraped his tongue over his teeth, but he didn’t respond.

He simply dismissed me by scrolling through his phone, leaving me sitting there in surprise.

I didn’t have time to dwell on it, though, because a lady I guessed was the flight attendant brought a full tray of food, and I was so hungry that was the only thing I could focus on.

At some point, I felt Alvise’s stare warming my face, but I was too hungry to be bothered.

Once I was done eating, my eyes felt heavy again, and I couldn’t control it, so I fell asleep once more.

Something thick fell over my body, making me jerk awake with a loud scream.

I looked around frantically, wondering what was going on, only to frown when angry doe eyes glared down at me.

“What are you doing?” I gritted. “You want to traumatize me even in my sleep?”

Tatiana’s honourable maid scoffed and folded her arms. “The jet has landed! Get up!”

I furrowed my brows and looked down at what had fallen over my body. It was a blanket. A very thick one.

“What is wrong with you?” I said, looking up. “Why did you put this over me?”

“I gave you a jacket to wear. Why didn’t you wear it?”

I fisted the blanket and threw it at her face. “If you have gone insane, kindly stay away from me. I don’t want to contract whatever you have.”

“You should dress modestly, not wear something that shows all your curves…”

I ran my hands through my hair. “You picked out the dress for me. What were you expecting?”

Her angry eyes trailed down to my body. “I sized you too small.”

My eyes widened, shocked by her audacity. “Are you calling me fat?”

She looked away. “I didn’t say…”

“Oh, please.” I stood from the edge of the bed, wincing as the pain in my arm still throbbed, though it was way better than it had been before I felf asleep. “You’re just mad the dress hugged my curves.”

“Have some shame…”

“If you say that to me again, I’ll make you hate me even more.” I threatened, done with ignoring her constant jabs at me.

Hex face fell, and she lowered her gaze. “I was called to wake you up. I’ve done my job.” She mumbled before scurrying away.

I finally paid attention to my surroundings and scrunched up my face when I found Alvise’s couch empty, So, he had left the jet when it landed and had Tatiana’s maid come wake me up?

Why couldn’t he do it himself?

I sighed, eyeing the way to the exit door and then glancing at the bed. I was officially in Russia after trying so hard not to come.

If I stayed in the jet long enough and Alvise forgot about me and left, would I be able to escape?

I sat back down on the bed, determined to find out for myself.

Was I taking a risk? I definitely was, but it was better to risk it than spend the rest of my life wondering what would have happened if I’d put up a fight.

I don’t know how long I just sat on the bed, wallowing in the dark thoughts I’d created for myself, but it was long enough for two guards, who I had no idea were still in the jet, to walk towards me.

“Sir requires your immediate presence, madam.” One of them said.

He looked oddly familiar, with light hair and dark eyes. I squinted my eyes, trying to take him in, and when it suddenly clicked, I gasped.

He was the same guard I’d lied to about Alvise waiting for me outside the apartment. No wonder he was practically glaring at me.

“What’s your name?” I asked curiously.

Since he was gullible, it was best to befriend him in case I hatched an escape plan and needed someone to help me.

He eyed me suspiciously, but eventually gave in. “Mikhail.”

“Ah, Mikhail.” I nodded. “Nice name…”

The words disappeared from my mouth when the sound of angry footsteps cut through the air.

I didn’t have time to process it as Alvise’s cold, stone-like face came into view, and with his jaw set hard and hands balled into fists, he walked towards the bed, towering over me.

“How many people did I have to send to fucking get you?”

Dread settled in my stomach, the sight of him losing his cool more terrifying than the thought of being stuck here. “I…”

“Not another word.” He hissed, and without warning, he lurched forward, grabbed my waist, hoisted me up, and then threw me over his shoulder.

I landed on his shoulder roughly and almost felt like I’d fractured a bone, huffing out a breath. “Careful… let me explain.”

“I’m done fucking listening to you.” Alvise rasped as he walked towards the exit and down the stairs of the jet, a troop of guards following us.

I bit my lip to stop any words from escaping and didn’t try to fight him. I knew there was a time and place, and now was not the time or place to mess with him.

My life was basically in his hands now. If fake compliance was what he seemed to want, I’d surely give it to him, but I was going to leave, no matter what. I didn’t care if I had to walk all the way back to London, but I would do anything before I let myself stay here and witness him marry another woman.

“You’re suddenly quiet.” Alvise said, his voice cold and stern. “What suddenly happened?”

“I’m plotting your death.” I said sheepishly, faking a smile even though he couldn’t see me.

“I beat you to it.” He retorted, setting me inside the backseat of the waiting car that was already open.

I waited for him to round the car and sit next to me before I spoke, taking a jab at him. “What? You’re going to let me just sit in the car? Aren’t you going to carry me like you just did so I don’t run away?”

I said it just to poke him. That was all it was, so it took me completely by surprise, wrenching a scream out of me when he grabbed my uninjured hand, pulled me towards him until I was sitting on his lap, and brought his mouth to my ear.

“I thought you’d never fucking ask.”
