Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 229
ARABELLA’S POV
My fingers trembled as I placed them on his chest to steady myself.
“Alvise…” I mumbled, “what are you doing?”

He leaned back against the seat and watched me, poking his inner cheek with his tongue. “You wanted me to carry you.”
I blinked. “I was just joking.”
“Too bad.” He said it nonchalantly, pulling a laptop from the bag close to us and placing it on my lap.
I stared at him in disbelief, my blood running cold and my stomach knotting as he opened the laptop and typed on it like he would if it were on his lap or a desk.
He was using me as a human table.
“What are you…”
“You’ve asked me that question several times already.” He said coldly. “Isn’t it fucking clear what I’m doing?”
Why was he upset? What did I do to him?
The car started, making me flinch as the driver veered the car onto the road at an alarming speed.
I peeked out and noticed we were followed closely behind by two cars, with another two in front of us.
I had no idea where exactly we were, but I just knew we were in Russia, and it was cold.
Extremely cold.
“Where are we?” I asked, peeking a glance at Alvise.
He looked up, his eyes meeting mine. “Moscow.”
“Oh.” I nodded, looking out the window.
I could feel his eyes searching my face, probably studying my reaction, but I refused to give him any.
“I’m cold.” I said after some time, turning back to look at him.
Amusement flashed in his eyes. “Moscow is cold.” He said, “very cold.”
I shifted under the weight of his eyes and cleared my throat to ease the tension. “Aren’t you going to give me your jacket?”
“Do you want my jacket?”
I nodded cautiously and stared down at my arms. It was almost like I could see the goosebumps on my

skin. “Yes, I do.” I said, rubbing my palms together.
Avise watched every single thing I did with rapt attention. “You shouldn’t be wearing long sleeves with ‘your wound.”
“I shouldn’t, but this was the dress your staff brought me.” I mumbled as my mind drifted to the moment.
I was pissed at her before, but now I wasn’t so mad at the dress. At least it shielded me from the cold a little
bit.
Alvise shrugged his jacket off and draped it over my shoulders, his addictive scent wafting into my nose and pulling me in.
I bit my lip and stared down at his dress shirt as he turned his attention back to his laptop. “What about you? Aren’t you feeling cold?”
“I was born here. The cold doesn’t bother me.”
I suddenly wanted to know everything about his life in Russia growing up and what his family was like.
I was starting to realize I didn’t know much about him… or I didn’t even know anything about him. He was like a mystery book, and with each page I turned, it revealed a little, but confused me even more.
“Do you like living here?” I whispered, fighting the urge to rest my head on his shoulder as another wave of sleep threatened to draw me in.
He didn’t respond, and I concluded I was bothering him as he worked, so I finally gave in and rested my head in the crook of his neck, secretly sniffing him as sleep wrapped me under.
Light taps on my face woke me up, and I blinked continuously, the sunlight beaming into the car almost blinding me.
“What?” I groaned, annoyed as I rubbed my face. “I just closed my eyes, why are you waking me?”
Strong arm’s wrapped around my torso and pulled me up, setting me on the leather seats.
“It’s been thirty minutes and you slept through it again,” Alvise’s cold voice snapped me back into reality.
I blinked away the blurriness and stared at him, surprised. “Why do I keep sleeping? Did you inject me while I was asleep the first time?”
Alvise closed his laptop and set it aside. “I gave you painkillers, orally. It must be a side effect.”
That explained the weird taste I’d felt in my mouth after waking up in the jet. I’d just assumed it was because I’d been starving and my mouth was dry.
“Take permission before you do things like that.” I retorted. “I hope you didn’t drug me.”
Unmoved by my words, Alvise opened the car door and got out, and that was when I finally paid attention to my surroundings.
I looked out the window, and my mouth fell open at the huge mansion that stood several feet away. It wasn’t just big; it looked luxurious and timeless, almost like it was made for royalty.

The surprising difference was the modern touch it had to it. Though the mansion stood out, nothing caught my attention like the army of guards surrounding it. In every corner, there was at least one guard
tioned there I looked around and realized it was the same thing all around the property.
My palms prickled with sweat despite the cold, and unease settled in my stomach.
This was really happening.
I was in front of Alvise’s home and I couldn’t believe it.
My door opened, and he stared at me impatiently. “Get out, Arabella.”
My face fell.
Why was he suddenly so cold and controlling?
I didn’t have time to ponder on it because he grabbed my uninjured hand and pulled me out of the car, the gentleness from earlier gone.
It was like I was with a totally different man, one that despised me so much he couldn’t look at me.
The disrespect and disgust in the way he nudged me away from the car made me snatch my hand away from him and step back, uncaring of the heads that turned in our direction.
“I didn’t ask to be here, Alvise.” I seethed. “If I remember correctly, I begged you to leave me in London, so why are you acting like I forced you to bring me here?”
He stepped into my personal space, his nose brushing mine, and the dark look in his eyes proving that I really didn’t know the man.
“Keep your mouth shut and follow me, or I’ll fucking make you.”
