I blinked, letting Andrei’s words sink in. It was rude… he was rude, and even though I wanted to ignore him, I refused to.
“And what will be in it for you?” I asked, glaring at him.
“What the fuck do you mean?”
“You want to tell me all this…” I pointed to his face, the scowl on it and the way his body was tense. “…is because you’re so concerned about how I make your boss’ life difficult?”
A muscle ticked in his jaw, and he looked away. “That’s exactly what I said.”
I scoffed, shaking my head. “And does he know you’re offering to ship me back?”
He snapped his head back to look at me and gritted out, “He doesn’t, and you will do well not to tell him.”
I raised my brows. “Is that a threat?”
He smirked. “It’s whatever the fuck you want it to be.”
I smiled. It was bitter and full of spite. “Threaten me again, and the moment this car stops, I’ll walk out and tell your boss what you spent the entire drive doing.”
He straightened, his eyes hard. “You wouldn’t dare.”
I snorted. “Try me. And maybe you’ll be the next person’s life I’ll make difficult.”
Andrei balled his hands into fists and turned to look out the window, not saying another word.
Better.
I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said, and even though I hated the way he offered to ‘ship me back to my country’, I was more concerned about what he said about Alvise.
My stomach twisted uncomfortably as I pondered his words.
I could see how it seemed like I was rebelling, but it wasn’t intentional. So much had happened, and it was hard for me to deal with the change all at once.
It wasn’t being married to Alvise that irked me, it was how he married me… And then the thought of him cheating had me spiraling.
The car suddenly slowed, and when I looked out the window, the mansion gates came into view as the driver drove through them.
The closer we got to the mansion, the faster my heartbeat became, and the moment the driver turned off the engine, the knot in my stomach twisted so tightly it became painful.
“Don’t say a word about our conversation to him.” Andrei warned harshly, reaching for the door handle.

“With that tone, it will be the first thing I say when I step out.” I snapped just as harshly.
Ns hand paused over the door, and he turned to look at me, his eyes hard with fury.
I glared back at him, refusing to cower.

I knew Alvise’s men hated me, and while the thought had made me scared before, I was starting to realise I shouldn’t give them that power.
I shouldn’t give anyone that power.
So I stared at Andrei head-on, watching as he flexed his hands, like he was itching to do or say something.
“I think we got off on the wrong foot.” Andrei gritted, his tone not matching his words.
“We definitely did.”
“It doesn’t have to be this way,” he said hesitantly. “We will be around each other a lot.”
I knew what he was trying to do, so he wasn’t fooling me.
“Right.” I mumbled.
He took a deep breath and blurted, “Boss won’t like it if he hears what I said to you.”
There it was.
The only reason he seemed remorseful was because I was going to out him.
I raised my brows. “And so why did you say it? Because you assumed I’m so weak you could threaten me?”
“I was just doing my job.” He shot back coldly.
I hummed. “The word you’re looking for is ‘please.”
Like I’d just insulted him, a dark look crossed his face, and he cussed under his breath.
Suddenly, my car door opened, and I turned to see who it was.
Igor gestured for me to walk out. “We need to park the car, madam.”
I nodded and turned back to Andrei, raising my brows. He opened his door grudgingly and, before stepping out, muttered, “please.”
It was barely audible, but I knew his ego took a hit, and that was enough for me.
I got out of the car, my legs shaking the moment I spotted William being dragged out of the car and taken to another wing of the property.
I found myself walking in their direction, but Alvise’s voice cut through the air, sending a shiver down my spine.
“Turn the fuck around and head to the house, Arabella.”

I turned on my heel to look at him, my chest heavy, but he was already walking toward the front door.
lease follow him, madam.” Igor instructed, pointing in their direction, and I obliged, dreading every second of it.
By the time I got inside the mansion, Alvise was already at the top of the stairs, heading to the room.

I closed my eyes, forcing my nerves to calm before walking up the stairs and moving toward the room, my blood running cold in my veins.
The door was half-open, and when I walked in, I gently closed it behind me as I took in the empty room.
Where was he?
Alvise walked out of the closet with a change of clothes and tossed it onto the armchair before loosening his tie, his muscles flexing beneath his dress shirt and his eyes never landing on me.
I swallowed hard and took a step forward. “I’m… sorry.” I whispered. “I didn’t plan to run away…”
“I’ll have someone help you take your clothes out of here to the guest room.” He said, cutting me off, his voice icy cold.
My heart dropped to my stomach, my ears ringing as I walked up to him. “I said I’m sorry… I know you’re pissed and…”
“Pissed?” His eyes finally came down to me, narrowed and dark as he stepped into my personal space. “Do you have any fucking idea what could have happened to you if anyone found out my wife was out there, unguarded, on the streets of Moscow?”
