Sin Itself

ARABELLA’S POV

I might be wrong, though I doubted that I was, but whoever the man grinning widely with his eyes fixed on us was, Alvise didn’t like him.

Not one bit.

I felt him still beside me, every muscle in his body seemingly tightening, his jaw clenched so hard that it hurt just looking at it.

The blonde man dressed in a trench coat kept his eyes glued to us, but the more I stared, the more I realized he was looking at me.

Weird.

My heart beat faster in my chest, his gaze unnerving me, not just because of his dead eyes or unnaturally muscled body, but because even though he was smiling widely, it didn’t reach his eyes.

A woman stepped out of the car and walked to stand beside him, her movements slow and docile, the perfect opposite of the man who now had his arm linked with hers.

Done with analyzing the strangers, I peeled my gaze away from them and looked at Alvise.

“Why are we still waiting outside?”

He glanced at me, his eyes dark and narrowed, and it looked like he was going to say something, but he scraped his tongue over his teeth and placed a hand on the small of my back. “Let’s go in.”

I bit my lip, tingles erupting across my skin from his touch as we walked into the clothing store, but I tried my best to keep it cool.

I was upset with him.

Or maybe pissed was the better word.

He was still yet to reveal what Rashell wanted to say to me before he stopped her, and for some reason, an uncomfortable knot formed in my stomach just from that alone.

What could he be hiding?

“Watch where you’re going,” Alvise warned, sliding his hand over my waist and pulling me back.

I flinched, looking in front of me to see that I had almost bumped into a mannequin.

“Thank you,” I mumbled, trying to wiggle out of his hold, but he didn’t budge.

I sighed, finally coming to terms with the fact that he was stronger than me and wouldn’t let me go unless he wanted to.

Looking around the store, I realized the place was large and spacious, with a lot of eye-catching pieces on display, and the sight of them made me excited.

“You might want to take a seat,” I mumbled, my eyes glued to the racks of clothes in front of me as we reached the middle of the store.

I craned my head back to look at the cold man towering over me, a frown forming on my lips. Why?”

Alvise didn’t look at me.

He glanced at his wristwatch, and a muscle ticked in his jaw. “I don’t have all day, Arabella,” he said, taking a step back and removing his hand from my waist. “Get what you want to get now.”

I took a step back too, even though my body protested the loss of his touch.

Without responding, I turned around and was about to walk away when a bunch of staff approached us, all with wide eyes and shock written plainly across their faces.

“Welcome… Mr. Valerio,” one of the staff said, glancing at Alvise before continuing, her voice shaky. “We weren’t informed of your arrival. If we had been, we would have planned a proper…”

“Assign a shopping assistant to my wife and get this over with,” Alvise said, cutting her off.

Her mouth fell open, and her wide eyes fell on me. “Your… wife?”
