Ruined By My Brother’s Best Friend
No Influence On You
ARABELLA’S POV
“I want you to carry me.”
Alvise looked up, his hands freezing over his phone screen. “Excuse me?”
I bit my lip, sitting up on the bed and giving him a blank look.

The jet had landed some minutes ago, and we’d been sitting in silence, just like we had for almost the entirety of the flight.
After we spoke about my parents and their police report, Alvise had fixed all his attention on work while I tried to watch some TV.
Now, after hours of pretending the other didn’t exist, I was tired of it.
“I said… I want you to carry me off the jet.”
Alvise slid his phone into his pocket, swiping a thumb across his lips. “And what do I get in return?”
His piercing eyes were unnerving, their intensity making me feel like he could see everything… right through my soul.
“The pleasure of carrying your wife,” I breathed, placing my hand on my chest. “The biggest honour of all,” I joked. “Don’t you think so?”
Wordlessly, he rose to his feet, towering over me as he walked towards the bed.
Alvise planted both hands on either side of me, leaning down until his face was inches from mine and his scent filled my nostrils.
“Yes, baby. You’re right.”
Heat rose to my cheeks, and I looked away, groaning inwardly.
“You need to stop doing that.”
“Stop doing what?”
“Calling me that,” I said, looking back at him while avoiding his eyes.
They were always too much to look into.
Unfazed by my discomfort, Alvise brought his lips to my ear. “Why?”
I shuddered, clutching his suit jacket to keep my hands busy so I wouldn’t end up twisting my fingers together.
“The way you say it…” I couldn’t complete my statement.
I couldn’t tell what it was.

It could be his accent, his voice… or just the way he said it, but it always made me flush, and I was getting annoyed with my body’s inability to act neutral.
You don’t like the way I say it?” Alvise asked, pulling back and searching my face.
I shook my head. “No…. no. I like it,” I admitted. “I like it a little too much.”
His face was unreadable as he slipped one hand under my legs and the other around my back hanking me
“You didn’t eat much during the flight,” he said, heading towards the exit with me in his arms. “You don’t like the food?”
“No. I liked it… but I couldn’t eat much after hearing the stuff about my parents.”
Alvise scraped his tongue over his teeth. “Are you worried?”
“More for them than for the situation,” I whispered. “If the Bratva has access to them, they might harm them, right?”
rs, tilting his head to the side as though considering my question.
ney really want to do, Arabella,” he explained. “Their main focus is getting information and, well, our marriage.”
frowned, wrapping both hands around his neck. “Why are they so concerned about who you marry?”
The corner of Alvise’s lips lifted. “Because my wife will have some influence on me, and they want to control who I marry so they can weaponise her to their advantage.”
coffed. “Then they’re wasting their time,” I said absentmindedly.
And why do you think so?”
“I don’t have any influence on you,” I mumbled, still speaking without thinking. “I don’t think anyone can have an influence on a man like you. You’re cold, strict, moody, a workaholic…”
My eyes widened, almost bulging out of their sockets, when I realised I was saying all that out loud.
“Why did you stop?” Alvise asked dryly, his face unreadable as he gently set me down in the back seat of the waiting car.
He leaned over me, strong and intimidating, his lips an inch away from mine. “I’m waiting to hear the rest, Arabella.”
I smiled, rubbing my nose against his to annoy him. “That’s enough for today. But not to worry, continue later.”
Alvise didn’t respond.

He watched me wordlessly for a few more seconds before straightening up and shutting the door, heading back towards the jet.
What’s he going back there to do?

I relaxed into the leather seats, looking out the window at the guards standing around the airstrip, guns tucked into their waistbands.
I still didn’t know what country we were in or why Alvise had brought me here.
Did he have a business meeting here, or did he just want to travel?
Everything had happened so suddenly, and he still hadn’t told me anything about the trip.
Finally, I caught sight of him exiting the jet with Igor, and my eyes dropped to the bag in his hand
I’d forgotten it.
So that was why he went back?
I waited patiently, tapping my foot against the floor until he opened the door and got into the car.
“Thank you,” I mumbled, taking my bag from him.
He ignored me.
“Start the car, Igor,” Alvise instructed once Igor got into the car, then he pulled his phone from his pocket, fixing his attention on it.
Igor started the car, and minutes later, we were driving off.
Alvise still didn’t speak to me or even acknowledge my presence, and it bothered me more than I wanted to admit.
Was he upset with me?
“Alvise…” I trailed off, clearing my throat. “Are you upset?”
He looked at me, stroking his chin. “About what?”
“Me calling you cold and… all that?” I muttered, holding his gaze,
He leaned against the seat, swiping a thumb across his lips. “I’m not upset, Arabella,” he said dryly, his deep voice filling the car.
“Then why are you moody?”
