Chapter 15 Ask Alden About My Infertility

Thalia quickly got out of bed. “I’ve been gone the whole night. I need to stop by the Crestfall residence first. We’ll talk when we go back to the Marquette residence.”

With that, she looked up and noticed a neatly folded outfit lying on the couch. A feeling of warmth crossed her heart at the thought that Tyren had prepared it for her.

She stepped out of the bathroom ten minutes later.

Tyren was sitting on the couch, his gaze icy. “Alden came looking for you last night. I worry that he’d cause trouble since he didn’t get to take you away. I’ll come along with you.”

Thalia stopped in her tracks and turned around with a faint smile. “There’s no need for that. I can handle it myself.”

But reality was far beyond what she imagined.

Josephine’s voice exploded like thunder the moment Thalia walked through the Crestfall residence gates. “You were out fooling around all night, and that freeloading brother of yours even beat up Alden! Do you even take this family seriously anymore?”

She stormed toward Thalia and raised her hand to slap her face.

The wind of the slap brushed past Thalia’s cheek, lifting her hair.

Thalia didn’t intend to tolerate anymore. She lifted her hand and caught Josephine’s wrist. “He isn’t a freeloading brother. His name is Tyren, and he’s one of the members of the Marquette family.”

Josephine never expected her repeated defiance. Her expression twisted. “Oh, do you think you can be disrespectful toward your mother–in–law just because you have your family to back you up now?”

Kiera walked over, visibly siding with Josephine. “Lia, Josephine is right. You’re the Crestfall family’s daughter–in–law. How can you team up with outsiders against your own family?”

Thalia loathed Kiera’s pretentious facade, so she didn’t hold back. “Kiera, don’t forget that I’m also part of the Marquette family.”

She was implying that Kiera was the outsider, not her.

Kiera caught on immediately and poured gasoline on a blaze. “I heard Tyren was adopted into your family. He watched as you grew up, and the relationship between the two of you has always been close.

“Since you’re not siblings by blood, you should keep some distance. Now, you’re defending him and going against your in- laws. What will people think of the Crestfall family if words get out? Aldy will be humiliated because of you.”

Kiera brought up the adoption and emphasized their closeness. She was clearly trying to imply improper relations between Thalia and Tyren.

Josephine already despised the declining Marquette family for disgracing the Crestfall family. Kiera’s words only deepened Josephine’s resentment toward Thalia.

“How shameless you are! You’ve been married to Alden for three years and are still out there flirting with other men! No wonder you can’t get pregnant. I believe it’s because you’re behaving so loosely.”

Thalia always swallowed her pride to preserve peace in the past. However, she could no longer hold back after such an insult. “Why don’t you ask Alden why I can’t get pregnant?”

Josephine sneered. “Alden is young and healthy. He doesn’t have any problem.”

Thalia laughed. He was indeed healthy. In fact, he was so healthy that all his energy went straight to Kiera.

Kiera felt slightly diffident but remained calm on the surface. “I don’t think the problem is with Alden.”

“Really?” Thalia said jokingly, “You seem to know him pretty well.”

A flicker of panic crossed Kiera’s face. It felt as if Thalia had seen through her deepest secret. She recalled Alden’s warning and softened her tone. “We’re family, and we see each other every day. Of course, I know him to some extent.”

Thalia nodded in agreement. “Yes, you’ve spent far more time with him than I ever did. It’s normal that you know him better.

Kiera felt that her words carried hidden meaning.

However, she didn’t let Thalia win. Her eyes reddened. “Alden’s brother passed away early, and I’m pregnant now. It’s not easy to handle everything on my own. Alden felt sorry for me and just wanted to offer some help to a widow and her poor

child.
