Chapter 16 She Doesn’t Care About Him Anymore

Thalia looked up and immediately noticed the bruises at the corner of Alden’s lips.

No wonder Josephine had gone hysterical earlier. Tyren clearly hadn’t been gentle.

Josephine gritted her teeth and snapped again, “Alden, we can’t let this go. You’re the Crestfall family’s heir. How can you be treated like this?”

“I’ll handle it. Don’t worry.” With that, Alden glanced at Thalia before he turned around and walked into the study room.

Thalia followed him upstairs. She glanced over at Kiera after a few steps. “You reminded me that even close relationships need boundaries. Since you’re a reasonable person who knows when to keep your distance, I’m sure you’ll follow that principle well. I’ll definitely learn from you.”

She gave a sinister smile, which made Kiera’s heart skip a beat.

Damn it. Did Thalia discover something?

Thalia didn’t stay any longer and walked up under a storm of Josephine’s curses.

A heavy smell of smoke hit her as soon as she approached the study room. She frowned uncomfortably and looked inside. The curtains were still shut, leaving the room dark, oppressive, and suffocating.

Meanwhile, Alden sat down before placing a cigarette to his mouth and lighting it up.

Thalia walked over and sat across from him. Up close, she noticed that he had a large bruise not only at the corner of his mouth but also at the corner of his eye.

Tyren definitely knew how to fight. He was physically stronger than Alden, who was no match for him in a fight.

In the past, she would have rushed to get medicine and fuss over Alden with constant inquiries about his condition whenever he felt even the slightest discomfort. But now, her emotions remained calm and indifferent when she saw him in this state.

Alden finally spoke after a few drags of smoke. “Who allowed you to go to the bar?”

Thalia withdrew her gaze. “I don’t need your permission to go anywhere, do I?”

He looked at her icy expression through the smoke and frowned deeply. “You don’t belong to that kind of place.”

She hated cigarette smoke. She tolerated it in the past because she loved him, but now that she no longer cared, she had no

reason to endure this.

Therefore, she stood up and walked past him to open all the curtains and windows. Only then did she return to her seat and respond, “If you have something to say, just say it.”

Something shifted in Alden’s gaze.

She was no longer the same person. However, he assumed she was still throwing a tantrum. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gotten drunk at the bar last night, spent the night away, and gone back to the Marquette residence with Tyren.

Alden extinguished his cigarette and got to the point. “The Chromia Retreat project has strong competition. You should prepare your proposal as soon as possible. There’s no time—”

Thalia got up before he could finish. “I’ll work on it now.”

With that, she turned around and left.

Alden was stunned. He was visibly injured, yet she hadn’t expressed a single word of concern at all. What kind of game was she playing now? Was she playing hard to get?
