Chapter 18 Once Treated Like Treasure

“Who’s there?” Alden’s muffled voice sounded from inside.

Thalia quickly withdrew, leaving as if she had seen nothing.

Alden straightened his clothes and rushed out of the study room. He then saw a white cat dart across the hallway.

Kiera wrapped her arms around his waist from behind. She didn’t seem to be done yet. “Aldy, you’re too nervous. It was just the cat making noise.

“Henrietta left early this morning and hasn’t returned yet. Josephine went out with friends for a spa treatment. I saw Thalia go downstairs with her bag before I came to find you.”

Alden glanced around the house. It was indeed empty.

Yet, he reminded, “We need to be careful. Thalia is jealous and spiteful. It’ll ruin everything if she finds out.”

Meanwhile, Thalia held the white cat in her arms around the corner, gently stroking its fur.

It was Henrietta’s beloved pet. Thalia had been taking care of it while Henrietta was away. The little creature stuck to her

closely now.

She played with it for a while before quietly leaving the villa and driving toward Crestfall Group.

Alden arrived at the company half an hour later. He didn’t head to the president’s office but instead went directly to Thalia’s

office.

He breathed a sigh of relief after seeing her focus on her work at her desk.

Thalia looked up and saw him standing at the door, looking intently at her. She knew why he was here. He wanted to confirm whether she had caught him and Kiera.

He walked in with long strides. Although he had changed into clean clothes, he couldn’t hide the fresh bite marks on his neck, nor the nail scratches on his arms.

Thalia pretended not to notice. She glanced at him sideways. “Can I help you?”

Alden sat on the couch across from her and lit a cigarette. “I promised my brother that I would take care of Kiera and her child. Don’t overthink it.”

Thalia responded with a hum without looking at him.

Alden’s last shred of doubt vanished completely. She truly knew nothing. Otherwise, she couldn’t possibly remain so calm.

He exhaled a puff of smoke. “When will the proposal be ready?”

“My nose is sensitive lately. Please smoke outside.” She didn’t answer him. Instead, she opened all the windows in front of him once again. She even called over the housekeeping to refresh the air.

That look of disgust and contempt was utterly unmasked.

Alden frowned slightly. Thalia never complained about his smoking habit before.

He would often get a sore throat from smoking too much, and she used to prepare throat lozenges and a lung–soothing beverage for him every night.

However, Thalia showed no sign of those gestures and simply sat back down at her desk after pulling open the curtains and calling housekeeping.

Alden recalled how she had remained utterly indifferent to his wounded face not long ago in the villa.

The housekeeper soon arrived, but she immediately shrank back and tried to leave after seeing Alden.

Thalia called out for her, “Come in.”

Yet, the housekeeper was still afraid.

Alden had a rule–no one was allowed to enter the room unless he personally permitted them to do so.

There was a housekeeper who once walked into the president’s office for cleaning purposes while he and Kiera were inside. He flew into a rage and fired the housekeeper on the spot.

Since then, the staff would enter the president’s office with extreme caution, fearing they might lose their jobs at any

moment.

“But, Mr. Crestfall-”
