Chapter 20 You and Your Child Will Be Fine
Quentin stepped inside after Thalia ended the call. “Ms. Marquette, Mr. Crestfall is asking for you.”
She had no idea why Alden wanted to see her. But she overheard him comforting Kiera on the phone just as she reached the door of the president’s office.
“Don’t be upset. I’ll take you to the auction tomorrow, and you can bid whatever you like. There’s no need to worry about the
money.”
Sotheby was hosting a major auction event in Yebaku City soon, featuring a wide array of luxury goods and artworks.
Thalia had seen the gilded invitation sent over by Sotheby on his desk a few days ago. She had assumed that Alden would invite her to go with him even if it was only for appearances. However, he decided to take Kiera instead of taking her.
Thalia paid no heed to what Alden wanted with her and turned to leave.
She saw Alden rush after her in haste just as she reached the elevator.
She opened her mouth and intended to ask him what he wanted, but he brushed past her and stepped into the elevator ahead of her with his phone in his hand.
“Don’t worry, I’m coming over right now. You and your baby will be fine.”
Thalia laughed cryptically. Nothing else mattered compared to Kiera.
Elowen called her shortly after, saying that Alden had sent Kiera to the hospital again. “I’ve never seen a pregnant woman who runs to the hospital every other day. She’s got nothing better to do.”
Thalia sneered. “What is it this time?”
Elowen said dramatically, “I’ve asked around. Apparently, they got too intense in bed, and there were signs of possible miscarriage.
“This woman is truly shameless. Her stomach is getting big, and she still doesn’t know how to restrain herself. She’ll lose that child entirely if she keeps fooling around.”
So, that was why Alden rushed out so anxiously. It turned out that the baby was at risk.
“By the way, where have you been last night? I couldn’t find you anywhere when I returned. Did you go to get a room with that sweet man?” Elowen laughed mischievously.
Thalia rubbed her forehead helplessly. “Tyren came back.”
There were a few seconds of silence on the other end of the line before Elowen’s shriek sounded. “When? How come I didn’t
know?”
“I only ran into him at the bar. He happened to see me choosing the male attendants,” Thalia said helplessly. “You completely ruined me, Ellie.”
Elowen burst into unrestrained laughter. “Oh, it’s fine. Tyren spoils you. He’d never scold you for that.”
Thalia finally realized that Elowen was a bad influence after hearing her gloating laughter.
They chatted briefly before ending the call. Thalia then fully focused on her work.
She lost track of time, barely managed to have a proper lunch, and kept working straight until late afternoon.
She glanced at the time and shut the computer. She tidied up her desk and grabbed her bag before leaving the office.
Her car stopped at the Marquette residence 30 minutes later.
