Chapter 67

When they reached the bedroom, Stella handed the bag she was holding to Layla. “This is Mrs.

Somerton Senior’s wedding gift for you and Dad.”

Eloise had asked about the wedding earlier that day. Stella knew that Eloise was displeased with her behavior yesterday. She knew why they were angry at her; the Sommertons could skip the

wedding if they wished, but Stella wasn’t allowed to be impolite.

When Yelena was giving Stella a verbal lashing, Eloise hadn’t said anything.

However, Eloise had still prepared a wedding gift and asked her to give it to Layla and Gary. She

had probably done so for the sake of the baby.

Layla didn’t look particularly excited when she accepted the bag. She had no intention to unwrap

whatever was inside.

Her lips curled up into a self-deprecating smile as she said, “Mrs. Somerton Senior shouldn’t have wasted her efforts on a small family like ours.”

She set the bag on the coffee table and helped Stella take a bath

Once Stella was done bathing, they sat on the couch.

“Have you ever thought about taking the baby with you, Stelle?” Layla asked suddenly.

Tristan was so cold-blooded and heartless. Layla worried about how the baby would turn out if she

was left in his care.

Stella stroked her belly and said helplessly, “I’ve thought about it. Tristan probably doesn’t care, but the Somertons care a lot about this baby. There’s no way I can take her with me.”

Besides, Stella couldn’t go anywhere in the state she was in.

Layla scoffed before saying, “If they truly cared about the baby, they wouldn’t have allowed Tristan to treat you like this.”

She also knew that their family couldn’t afford to fight for the baby.

“She’s going to be the Somertons’ only girl, after all. I’m sure they’ll treat her really well,” Stella said, hoping to comfort Layla.

Layla reached out and stroked Stella’s belly. She sighed before saying, “I can only hope so.”

The next day, Tristan brought Stella to the hospital for a check-up. Layla tagged along.

They dropped by a prestigious private hospital owned by Somerton Corporation.

The hospital staff had been informed beforehand that the gynecology department was not allowed to conduct any check-ups for other patients between 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The entire department

was expected to serve Stella and only Stella.

Layla couldn’t help but be in awe at the sheer scale of the check-up. The Somertons were a truly powerful family.

Tristan waited in the break room. It was his first time accompanying Stella to the hospital for a

check-up.

In the past, Stella had fervently wished that Tristan would fulfill his responsibility as her husband one day. She would be satisfied even if he only stayed by her side for one or two hours.

But now, Stella no longer harbored such wishes.

They hadn’t spoken a word to each other since yesterday.

The check-ups concluded an hour later, and it didn’t take long for the results to come out.

Tristan looked at the medical report that the doctor handed to him. He could clearly see a small baby in the ultrasound photo. He stared at the baby as the doctor explained the results of the check-up to him.

Stella’s expected delivery date had been moved earlier due to the bleeding she suffered last time. She could go into labor at any moment, so they had to be prepared. Fortunately, the baby’s condition was stable, and Stella was also in good health.

Tristan set the report down after the doctor was done. “Make all the necessary preparations.”

“We will. Don’t worry, Mr. Somerton,” the doctor replied. “We’ll do our best to make sure that everything’s ready.”

Tristan hummed in response and didn’t say anything else.

Stella was sitting on a chair in the hallway after finishing her check-ups, eating the breakfast that Layla had gotten up early to prepare. She had kept the food on her at all times, and she had been starving even before the check-ups were over.

Once the check-ups were done, she didn’t waste another second before digging into the food.

Just then, her phone vibrated. She grabbed it and saw Tristan’s name flashing on the screen.

“Hello?”

“Where are you?” he asked in his usual flat tone.

“In the hallway outside the ultrasound room. I’m having breakfast.”

“Come here after you’re done,” he said, immediately hanging up after he was done speaking. Once Stella was done eating her breakfast, Layla helped her up to her feet before they made their way over to where Tristan was. When they arrived, they heard Tristan talking to someone on the phone.
