Chapter 81
Chapter 81

When Stella heard the baby crying over the phone, her heart clenched. She had been forcing herself not to think about Faith, but she would lose control whenever night came.
She would stare at Faith’s photo and cry in silence. Now, hearing her cries so clearly, waves of dull pain struck her heart.
For a moment, she didn’t hear Tristan’s voice at all.
“Stella!” The man raised his voice.
Only then did she snap back to her senses. She adjusted her breathing and said, “Have
”
someone send the divorce agreement over as soon as possible. I can’t go out, and it’ll be the New Year holiday soon.”
Faith’s crying continued on the line. Faintly, Stella could also hear the nanny, Martha Stout, trying to soothe her.
“I’ll have someone mail it over,” Tristan replied.
“Okay,” Stella said and hung up.
She put down the phone, and the tears she had been holding back spilled over uncontrollably.
She wiped them away, only for more to fall.
In the quiet living room, only the sound of her own soft sobbing remained. In the end, she could no longer hold it in. She hugged her knees and cried her heart out.
By the time Gary and Layla returned at noon, Stella had already composed herself and was lying on the bed resting.
Layla prepared some cut fruits and brought them into Stella’s room. The fruits came with Stella’s favorite sponge
cake.
“These just came out of the oven. Eat them while they’re hot.”
Stella nodded. “Okay. Thank you, Mom.”
Layla smiled and turned to go to the kitchen to prepare dinner,
Annabeth had taken her leave early this year. After finishing her work, she came to visit Stella, bringing along bags of goodies. She was heading back to Seaview the next day for the year- end holidays.
Hayden and Justin also came to see Stella that same day. Hayden’s hometown was also in Seaview, so he would be traveling back together with Annabeth.

After dinner, everyone said their goodbyes.
“Stelle, see you after the New Year.”
“Yeah. See you all next year.”

Two days later, Stella received the divorce agreement that Tristan had sent over. She glanced through the document and signed her name. It was time for the mistaken crossing of paths to
end.
Once done, she handed it back to the delivery boy.
Tristan soon received the signed agreement. He was looking at the document when Martha entered his study.
“Mr. Somerton, Ms. Faith is crying again.”
Recently, Faith had been crying all the time. She wouldn’t stop even when others tried to soothe her, except for when Tristan was holding her.
He set the document aside and strode out of the study. Faith’s crib had been placed in his bedroom, so he headed there. The once cold and minimalist space was now filled with baby supplies.
Yelena was trying to lull the baby, but she was crying endlessly in her arms. Tristan stepped forward and reached out to take Faith. “Let me.”
Hands that had once been stiff and awkward now moved with practiced ease as he cradled the baby against his shoulder, gently patting her back with one hand.
“Fifi, don’t cry,” he murmured. “Daddy’s here.”
Faith cried for a while more in his arms, then gradually quieted down. Once she settled, he sat on the sofa and wiped her little face with baby wipes. After that, he took the milk bottle from Martha, tested the temperature, and fed her.
Faith held the bottle with her soft little hands. Her eyes were still red-rimmed, making her look both pitiful and unbearably adorable. Tristan gazed down at his daughter, his eyes overflowing with a father’s gentle affection.
Yelena watched from the side and let out a soft sigh. “She still likes you
best.”
She had never expected that her cold, distant son would actually become such a devoted father.
