“You can stand up for her, but the Somerton family is not an outlet for you to vent emotions,” Tristan said. “Don’t forget, you’re a Somerton too.

“And you’re not a child anymore. You’re even running your own company, so try not to let emotions dictate your actions and words.”

Theodore clenched his fists and slowly lowered his gaze. His expression remained tense, but he didn’t say anything else.

Silence fell over the room.

Right then, a maid came upstairs and announced, “Mr. Tristan, Mr. Theodore, dinner’s ready.”

Tristan uncrossed his legs, handed the bag in his hand to the maid, and said, “Take this to my

room.

“Yes, sir,” the maid replied, taking it with both hands before leaving.

Seeing Theodore still sitting there, motionless, Tristan asked, “Why are you still sitting there?

Theodore pocketed his phone and stood up. The two of them walked into the dining room, one after the other.

The dining table was filled with steaming hot food, and everyone’s faces were full of smiles.

Faith was nestled in David’s arms, and the usually stern patriarch now had his wrinkled face softened into a warm, doting smile.

Eloise held a toy in her hand, teasing the baby and making Faith giggle. Everyone laughed along with her.

Perhaps aware that it was a joyful day of reunion, Faith had been well-behaved all day, not

crying or fussing. She smiled happily at everyone who played with her.

Her smile was infectious.

“Let me hold her,” Eloise said, reaching for Faith, but David refused.

“You just held her.

Eloise glared at him and cooed to Faith, “Fifi, do you want Great-grandma to hold you?”

Tristan stepped forward. “I’ll take her, Grandpa. Let’s eat first.”

“Good idea. Let’s eat first.”

Tristan took Faith into his arms. She smiled at her father, and Tristan stroked her tiny cheeks dotingly before carefully placing her in the stroller and settling her next to him.

Having drunk her fill, Faith lay quietly in her stroller and soon fell asleep.

Over at the Robertses, the family was having their New Year’s Eve dinner as well. Even though there were only four of them, as long as the family was together, it was a happy occasion.

Gary gave Stella a debit card with ten million dollars on it. It was the money from selling the company, deposited before the holidays.

He had received 150 million dollars in total, most of which was going to be invested in Jonathan’s company, while he and Layla had put a little over 20 million dollars aside as

retirement savings.
