Hannah’s pov

For a tense moment, I just stared because my brain was having a hard time processing what I just saw. This hadn’t been part of the plan.

Margaret’s eyes are still wide as her hands reach up to grab her throat, mouth wide as blood spills out. She can’t speak but she gurgles on her blood.

Her hands weakly claw at her daughter’s wrist, practically begging with her eyes to spare her but Kimberly…she didn’t even flinch.

There was no hesitation or regret in her eyes. There was absolutely nothing.

“What the hell are you doing?!” I manage to gasp out, stepping forward instinctively to help Margaret but Kimberly blocks my path and my heart freezes because I know I was no match for her strength.

Kimberly didn’t even acknowledge me….she just finished it. She ripped her mother’s throat open. I watch the blood gush out, splattering on Kimberly’s face.

Margaret’s body dropped to the ground with a sickening thud to the cold dirty concrete floor, her lifeless eyes staring up at nothing.

Silence filled the dungeon.

“You’re insane,” I whisper as I look down at Margaret’s unmoving body. Her wolf didn’t even have time to help her heal before her daughter finished her off.

Kimberly turned around to stare at me then, her eyes cold with no emotions swirling in the depths. It was like she was dead inside. She had no soul.

And that causes a cold feeling to whoosh through my heart. Because I had never seen her look so emotionless

before.

“She would’ve kept us back anyway,” Kimberly shrugged as though she had not just killed her mother in cold blood.

My stomach twisted and I felt sick.

“Kimberly,” I croaked out as my eyes flickered down to Margaret again, staring at the way the blood pooled beneath her. Gosh, the scent of copper was strong in the air.

“You didn’t have to murder her,” I whispered as a chill of unease curl down my spine.

She shrugged and stepped over Margaret’s body like she meant nothing. “I told you it is to serve as a distraction Hannah,” her tone bites with irritation.

I stagger out of her path, my heart pulsing. Her eyes narrowed and then she rolled them. “Oh stop acting like a scaredy cat Hannah. I’m not going to hurt you. I needed to kill Mom because we need a distraction when Ryan and Alpha Gavin come back. Mom served her purpose.”

I looked at her as though she had grown two heads. How can one be this cold after they had murdered their own mother?

Hannah rolls her eyes and starts walking away. “If you’re scared you can stay. But I have a plan to set in motion and I don’t need pussies slowing things down for me.”

I swallowed as I peered at her back, then back at her lifeless mother. If I don’t follow her, I’d be blamed for not only helping her escape but also killing her mother.

There was no hope for me here anymore. I had to follow her. If I didn’t want to die by alpha Ryan’s hands, I’d have to be at Kimberly’s every beck and call.

“Wait up,” I said as I forced my legs to move even though every instinct in me screamed to run the other direction.

I cast one last look over my shoulder at Margaret’s body. The crimson blood had already started spreading, crawling across the cold floor like a river. Her eyes…they were still open.

I shuddered as my stomach lurch and I quickly snapped my gaze forward, swallowing hard as I tried to hurry up behind Kimberly.

“Hey-wait,” I hissed again, catching up to her just as she reached the dungeon doors. She stops and turns her head to face me and the look she gives me made my skin crawl.

Not once had I ever been as scared as I am right now.

My fingers tightened around the keys still clutched in my hand. “Kimberly, you just killed your mother,” I said, my voice now lower and more cautious. “If your plan is sloppy, we’re dead before we even reach the border.”

She smirked. “Trust me Hannah,” she grabs the keys from my hand as she steps out of the door and into the night air. I reluctantly follow after her.

On the way out she nudged the knocked out guards and shake her head in amusement. “I can’t wait to come back and kill them all,”

“Wait, what about your father-

“He will die too. They all will,” Kimberly cuts in coldly.

I don’t bother asking anything else. I just silently followed after her because I was scared that I would be the one to die under her hand if I said anything that would irritate her.

When we got into Brett’s vehicle, Kimberly started to drive like a maniac. I hold the door and spare her a nervous glance.

“If you keep driving like a maniac, it would alarm some wolves,” I pointed out.

She doesn’t even glance at me as she smirks.” We don’t have much time Hannah and besides the sooner we find the vampire king, the faster I can get my revenge on Ryan and Evie,”

Ryan’s pov

“Yes, Alpha Ryan couldn’t control his anger on the field today. He attacked me unprovoked-

“That is a lie!” I snarled at Gavin. From the glint in his eyes, I knew he would throw me under the bus so he could see me lose control again.

He was trying his hardest to keep Evie away from me.

“Alpha Ryan, please refrain from interrupting Alpha Gavin. We need to hear both sides of the story.” The council leader utters and gives me a pointed look. “Wait your turn.”

I ground my teeth and shoot daggers of anger Gavin’s way before reluctantly pulling my eyes off his.

My hands curled into fists at my sides. He was baiting me. Every word and every look showed that he was. He wanted me to snap.

“As you can witness here, Alpha Ryan can’t seem to control his emotions all that much which led to the fight between us,” Gavin continues with a stupid tiny smirk lifting the corner of his mouth slightly.

‘Don’t say anything to him,’ Apex warned, his voice low and tense. ‘This is a trap.’

“That is a very bold claim,” one of the council elders spoke, interlocking his fingers as his sharp eyes flickered between us. “Especially considering the reports we’ve received.”
