Ryan’s pov

Everything else went quiet for me but my ears…… they rang loudly. I closed my eyes tightly, wincing as my brows furrowed in

confusion.

I must’ve heard him wrongly.

My eyes peel open. “What did you just say?” I questioned him and he went silent.

His jaw strained and he looked away but I’ve already caught the regret in his eyes. He said something he wasn’t supposed to.

My heart starts to pound. “Repeat what you just said,” I said tightly, now turning to him, barely restraining myself.

“Forget it,” he snaps, refusing to acknowledge me but acknowledges the council leader instead. “I was trying to protect the girl because her own people wanted her dead. I hadn’t known Alpha Ryan parents had gone through this much to keep the two apart. If I had known-

I grabbed his collar before he could finish his words and yanked him to me until our faces are inches apart.

“Alpha Ryan!” The council leader shouts but I ignore him. His laws didn’t matter right now. I didn’t care what they do to me, I wanted to know the truth. The truth Gavin was hiding.

“You said she had an unborn pup,” my voice doesn’t sound like my own but sounds like Apex, my wolf. “Whose?” I snarled low.

Gavin’s jaw flexed but he doesn’t say a word and that…that fucking aggravated me even more. And I fucking lose it.

With a snarl I throw my fist at his face, slamming it on his jaw. Blood spits out of his mouth and his face snaps to the side. But he doesn’t fight back. He doesn’t have time to as the council men surround us in seconds and pull me away from him.

“Tell me!” I snarled even though I’m being pulled away aggressively from him.

“Fucking tell me!” I snarled, struggling against the hands gripping my arms. It took four of them. Four council members tried to hold me back and even then I could feel their grips tightening as Apex pushed forward in my mind, furious and untamed.

Across from me, Gavin straightened his head slowly. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he rolled his jaw and lifted the back of his hand to wipe the blood away. Still… he didn’t look angry.

He looked regretful, like someone who was hiding something.

“Answer him, Alpha Gavin,” One of the elders said sharply, his gaze flickering between us. I knew he was only nosey to know more. “You’ve already said too much to stay silent now.”

Gavin wiped the blood from his lip with the back of his hand again and his eyes met mine and didn’t flicker away.

And for a second, as he remains silent, I thought he’d still refuse to speak. My chest heaved as every muscle in my body lace tight, ready to break free and rip the answer out of him if I had to.

I don’t think all four of those council men can hold me back for too long. Not when Apex was this furious and wanted answers. Not when I needed confirmation for what I feared.

“Whose pup was it?” The council leader demanded, his tone sharp and cold.

The air stills. Gavin doesn’t respond. Not right away which makes Apex storm inside my body. It was difficult keeping a wolf that seeks answers about his mate back.

Especially when he just heard his mate had been carrying.

Gavin clenched his jaw and with a sharp exhale, finally uttered. “She was carrying his.”

The room went quiet and every damn pair of eyes flick over to me. But I didn’t see them. Hell, I wasn’t even sure if they were

saying anything.

All I could hear were Gavin’s words.

She was carrying his…..

The ringing in my ears grows sharper, more irritating and suddenly the fight in my body ceases and I nearly collapse to my knees.

“She was carrying your child Ryan.” Gavin utters and stresses on the word your which made something inside me shatter.

Your child….

Mine….

‘Ours.’ Apex whined. I’ve never heard him so broken before. It was like the confirmation shattered him because that would mean Evie kept this away from us.

“But we only found out a few days after you called. I couldn’t risk her then to go back to a pack…that wanted her dead,” his voice is lower now, almost apologetic.

The council members that restrained me felt that the fight had left my body and pull away just a little. I sunk to my knees then as something sharp pressed against my heart.

“I swore to protect her when she stepped foot in my territory. I looked after her and her son-

The ringing grows and I grunt, wincing. A son. We have a son? They kept this from me. She kept-
