Ryan’s pov

Everyone in the room went still. The council leader eyed me, his attention not straying once. His eyes locked onto mine, searching them carefully and digging for any signs of hesitation or doubt or for even the slightest crack in my claim.

But he finds none.

“Are you certain Alpha Ryan?” he asked slowly, his tone more stern now. “That Kimberly Gold and her mother attempted to poison Evie Gold?”

I nod. “They confessed when I used my alpha command on them.”

“I was a witness to this, too council leader,” Gavin surprises me when he speaks up again. I spare him a glance and he gives me an acknowledging nod. One that silently tells me he will back me with this claim. 1

I am stunned but I don’t question it for too long. I had other matters that needed my attention. One of them is getting out of here and to have a word with Evie.

A tidal wave of tension moved through the room at Gavin’s words. The council leader’s gaze flickered briefly to him, eyeing him. carefully then his eyes return back to me.

Two Alphas with the same claim and with no hesitation in our tone.

“And you stand by that statement Alpha Gavin?” the leader asked Gavin tensely.

“I do,” Gavin answered without pause, his voice firm and strong. “They admitted it under Alpha command. There had been no room for deception.”

The council leader hums as if in thought and then looks back at me thoughtfully. “If I release you Alpha Ryan. What do you intend to do when you return to your pack?”

“Fix things with my true mate,” I said instantly because she was all that mattered. “I intend to claim her and make her mine fully. I intend to….” My voice starts to break. “Meet my son.”

My heart slams hard against my ribcage. A son. I have a son. And I intend to meet him and be in his life. I intend to get my family

back.

The council leader studied me closely and for the first time since I set foot in this place, there was no accusation in his gaze but understanding.

The silence in the room stretched and the other council men looked at the leader, waiting for his word. My skin prickled with anxiety as I await his word too.

Just as I was about to lose hope that he would finally see my reasoning, he let out an exhale and straightened to his full height.

“Very well,” he said tightly, his gaze pinning me down and warning me that if I so much as mess this up, I wouldn’t get a second chance again. “You will be released, Alpha Ryan.”

The relief slammed into me instantly and I let out a shaky breath, my heart skipping with excitement to see Evie.

“However,” he added quickly and lifts a hand slightly and my wolf stirs. He looks down at me for a moment, his calculating eyes assessing me before his lips curled back into a frown.

He continues. “This matter is far from over.”

I nod, agreeing with him. As long as I get to see Evie as soon as possible, then I will agree to anything he says.

I nodded. “I understand.”

“I will dispatch some of our loyal council men immediately,” he continued. “They will retrieve Kimberly Gold, her mother…and your parents. This matter is now out of your hands Alpha Ryan. It should’ve been in our hands in the first place.”

I stiffen, waiting for him to set a punishment for taking matters into my own hands instead of coming to him about it but he surprises me when he continues.

“However, I will look past this just this once. But don’t let this happen again,” he warns.

I nodded quickly. “Yes council leader,” I bowed my head to show him my respect as he uttered more.

“They will answer for what they’ve done,” he said, his tone growing cold and angry. “Especially the crime of attempted murder

of a true mate.”

I nod, actually feeling relieved that they all will pay. Even though I did want Kimberly and her mother to rot in my cell, I was sure the council would torture them just as much as I had planned.

“Release him,” the leader ordered again, firmer this time.

The last of the tension around me broke as the guards fully stepped away from me.

I rolled my shoulders slightly, ignoring the sting left behind by the silver as my focus was already miles away. Back home, back

to her.
