The woman behind the counter stiffened immediately. I remember her; she had always been a bitch towards me before. She hated my guts because she had a huge crush on Ryan back then, even though she was eight years older than he was at that time.

Her eyes flicked over me again but this time they swam with uncertainty. It was as if she were trying to decide whether to turn me away or pretend like I was not here at all.

“I’m sorry….” she started hesitantly, her fingers tightening around the pen she had in her hand. “But our beta can’t accept visitors at this time-”

“I wasn’t asking if I could be let in,” I cut in coldly.” You will let me in,” my eyes flicker down to her name tag. Arielle. ” Arielle.”

Arielle swallowed hard. “I just-there are protocols-”

“And I just said,” I stepped closer, placing both my palms flat against the desk flat as I leaned in slightly, my eyes locking onto hers without blinking. “You will let me in.”

Arielle froze under my cold unyielding gaze. I could hear her sharp intake of breath, see the dots of perspiration peppering her skin, see her pulse quicken on the curve of her neck and…..smell her fear and unease.

Her fingers tightened around the pen until her knuckles turned white and her eyes flickering between mine like she was searching for even the smallest hint that I might back down.

When she realizes I wouldn’t, she starts to murmur.” Beta Gold-

“I am Evie Gold,” I snapped. “Daughter of that bastard. You remember me Arielle. Cut the bullshit. I want to see my father.”

She flinches.” But-but Luna-

“Is in the fucking dungeon, along with her mother,” I snarl. ” Are you going to refuse me to see my own father, Arielle?”

Arielle’s lips parted. ” But Alpha Ryan-

“Is also not here,” I looked around the room and a smirk starts to paint on my lips. “It would take me seconds to rip you to shreds if I have to. No one will be able to save you…” I trailed, trying to hide the laughter in my voice when her face paled.

…” She swallowed hard, her fingers trembling slightly as they loosened around the pen. “I just…I could lose my job-”

Her words begin to fumble even more when my claws push out my fingertips in warning. Arielle now resembles a ghost.

“O-okay,” she stammered, stepping back from the desk like she was on the verge of running away. “Third corridor…second room on the left.”

I straightened slowly as I held her gaze for one last second. She looks anywhere but at me. “Good choice,” I snorted, lightly tapping my fingers on the countertop before looking around the room.

Everyone was already staring, obviously hearing what I told the precious nurse. I smirked and then turned around to walk away.

The closer I draw to the man who pretended like I never existed, the more I feel the weight on my shoulders. I hadn’t seen him in three years. And even before that, I barely saw him.

He was a ‘busy’ man. Never truly spent time with his family and would go entertain whores outside of the pack. He would busy himself with a lot just to spend less and less time with us.

Not that it mattered because he treated me just as poorly as everyone else did.

My jaw tightened as I rounded the corner, my fingers curling into a fist as iny nails bit into my skin.

Third corridor…..second room on the left.

I stopped in front of it.

My feet refused to move for a second as I listened to the faint beating of his heart on the monitor.

‘You don’t have to see him Evie,’ Serena murmured.

‘I know,’ I said. ‘But I want to.’

I finally opened the door and stepped into the room. The room had not many lights on except for the faint glow on the monitors. But with my vision, I could see everything.

I stepped fully in and my eyes fell on the figure on the bed.
