Evie’s pov

The moment the words left his mouth, the warriors snapped into action. Three of them lunged at me at once and I didn’t even bother stepping back.

Instead, my smirk widened, enjoying this more than I should.

Rough hands grabbed my arms and tried to force them behind my back. Another warrior shoved their hand harshly between my shoulders as they tried to push me to my knees.

I didn’t go down, I’d never go down on my knees for them. Especially when I am innocent.

My feet planted firmly on the ground, refusing to shift even an inch. An amused snort slipped past my lips. “Careful there boys,” I murmured, my voice wasn’t loud as it swam with something close to simmering anger. “You’re making a mistake you won’t be able to undo Brett.”

“Shut her up,” Brett growled at them in frustration as they struggled to put me down to my knees.

“You really think I did it?” I asked, my tone almost bored as my eyes settled on him, my brows arching up in a mocking lift. ” That I killed her and then just…..stayed…..and then walked right into the middle of your little investigation?”

His lips tilt into a smirk and his eyes swim with hatred. I’m a little taken aback by how much hatred swam in his eyes. Sure we were never on good terms when I had been in this pack but still….why so much hatred?

“You’re the only one here with motive,” he lifted a shoulder into a barely there shrug.

That made me laugh and this time it wasn’t quiet. “Motive?” I repeated tauntingly. “If I wanted my mother dead, she would’ve been dead the second I step foot back into that damn territory.”

The warrior behind me faltered for half a second, as if they were unsure if I was the culprit or not.

However, Brett didn’t like my words one bit and snarled out furiously. “Enough! Take her to the cells dammit.”

The warriors hesitated. “Are you sure. Alpha Ryan-

One started to utter but Brett cut in sharply. “Has already been informed of what’s happening! Who do you think told me to take her into the cells!”

My heart skipped a beat. Was I honestly surprised that Ryan even now, would betray me?

I bit the inside of my cheek and glared at the ground. Even now….he stabs me in the back.

“Now get her in the cells! Now!” He ordered, sounding even angrier.

I looked up then and caught the satisfied smirk on his face when I didn’t try to fight the warriors anymore and let them push me closer to the dungeon.

“Wolf less Evie still the same useless bitch she’s always been. When you left Ryan rejoiced! He was finally free of the trailing puppy,” Brett laughed. “He was so fucking happy that you left. He never cared for you. Not one bit! In fact, you have no idea how many times he prayed you were…..dead.”

I cemented my feet on the ground just beside him, my gaze sliding once more to the guards slumped by the entrance and then slowly back at him. The warriors struggle now to push me forward.

I took in an inhale and stiffened. Now that I was closer to Brett, the scent of copper was now mixed with something familiar. Someone else’s scent that wasn’t here now.

It clung to Brett strongly.

Interesting. Very, very interesting indeed.

The corner of my lips lifted into a smirk. He smelled of someone I know all too well.

‘It smells like Hannah,’ Serena noted. ‘Kimberly. They both got out. I can smell them both on the ground.’

The pieces were coming together.

“Let me guess,” I utter, my voice losing all the earlier amusement and is now replaced with an icy tone. “You and Hannah helped her get out,” I tilt my head slightly, an eyebrow cocked. “Which one of you killed Margaret?”

The warriors tugged harder on my arms as they tried to drag me forward again but I didn’t budge. When will they realize I was the one in charge of my own fate?

“Move,” one of them grunted under his breath, trying and failing to push me forward. I ignored him, my gaze staying locked on Brett as I watched his smirk start to dwindle into a frown.

Got you.

“Oh?” I hummed softly, tilting my head a little more as I studied him. His shoulders had stiffened and his fingers twitched. “Did I strike a nerve, Beta?”

“Move her,” Brett snapped sharply, his voice harder now but so much less composed. The frustration was now bleeding into his tone. “I’m done listening to her bullshit.”

The warriors pulled again and this time I amused them by letting them drag me a step forward….just one before planting my feet firmly again.

Their grips tightened brutally as frustration seeped through their scent now.

“Hannah….” I repeated slowly, letting her name linger in the air like the poison she was. “Funny. I didn’t smell her anywhere in the infirmary earlier….but somehow…” I leaned forward slightly despite the hold on me, inhaling deeply just to taunt him further. “She’s all over you.”

Hannah had been training to be a pack doctor before I left and I knew she unfortunately became one because of her attire in the kitchen earlier. She had also smelt strongly of antiseptic.

“Shut up,” He growled, stepping closer, his composure finally cracking.

But I don’t shut up. I am not beneath him and he is not my alpha or Beta to command me.

“Where is Hannah Brett?” I taunted. Silence settled over us for just a beat, then his hand struck out and grabbed my chin harshly. Forcefully, he pushed my head up.

“You talk too damn much for a lousy warrior,” he hissed, his face inches from mine, eyes blazing with anger and hatred.

He knew I had figured it out. And he was getting nervous.

I smirked. “Head warrior asshole. At least get it right.”

That hit a nerve. “Get her fucking in the cells now!” He ordered the warriors but they didn’t move. They were finally listening to

I looked at Brett calmly. “If I go in there, I’ll take a whiff of Margaret’s scent and though the copper of her blood is strong, I’m sure the person who killed her scent is all over her,” I tilt my head and smirk. “I’m also certain that whoever helped them scent still clings to the walls and floor. Are you ready to risk your life and position Brett? Because Ryan is no damn fool.”

Brett’s hand gripped my neck now, pressing hard. I don’t even flinch. “You bitch!” He roars. “You dare insinuate that I helped the prisoners escape!?”

I snorted, my tongue clicking on the roof of my mouth before I replied coldly. “I’m not insinuating anything, Beta Brett. I’m

telling you, your plan was sloppy.”

His eyes burned. “You bitch-

“Evie!” Lisa said sharply as she ran over, claws out and canines drawn. “Let go of her!” She orders him angrily.
