My paws strike the ground as Serena surges forward. She was fast, her intentions set on hunting down Kimberly and Hannah.

Apex ran beside me, keeping close effortlessly as we tore through rogue territory. The scent trail had gotten fainter but the sharp smell of gasoline lingered in the air. We were heading in the right direction.

I picked up my pace and Apex follows and that’s when we hear it. The screeching of tires. It wasn’t loud but I could hear it. We were closing in on them.

‘We’re so close, I can smell the bitch,’ Serena growled and pushed harder.

Branches whipped past us, snapping against our fur as the forest began to thin. The ground shifted beneath our paws….fewer roots, more dirt and then we hit gravel. Road. We’re now on the road.

In minutes I finally caught sight of it. The jeep, speeding down the narrow road as it kicks up dust behind it. The tires screech as it tore through the bends. I knew they had caught or scent the second she speeds up. 1

Apex looks at me silently, just enough for me to catch what he was trying to communicate. With a growl and nod, we burst forward. We were gaining on them.

Kimberly’s eyes meet mine through the rearview, dead. She had no light in her eyes anymore. What was left was dark and cold. She snarls, looking angrily as she steps on it.

My paws hit harder against the gravel as Serena pushed us forward, every muscle in our body tightening with the chase. She growls low, eyes pinning down Kimberly through the rearview mirror.

The jeep was right there now.

Close enough that I could see the dust spitting from its tires, hear the engine struggling slightly as it took the sharp corners. I can smell Hannah from here, smell the slight fear lingering. But Kimberly, she had no fear.

The jeep hit another bend too fast and its back wheels slipped for half a second. And that was all I needed.

‘Now,’ Serena snarled and we launched forward. Not toward the jeep’s back but toward its side.

Apex reacted instantly, as if he knew what I was about to do and we struck at the same time. My shoulder slammed into the side of the moving vehicle with brutal force and the metal screamed.

The impact jolted through my entire body but I didn’t let go, no, I dug in harder, my claws scraping against steel as the jeep lurched sideways.

Inside, Hannah screamed in panic. “Kim drive faster!”

The vehicle swerved violently, tires screeching against gravel as Kimberly fought to control the wheel. “Hold it steady!” Hannah shouted, fear curling in her tone.

Kimberly didn’t respond though and I watch her grip on the wheel only tighten.

Apex hit the front of the vehicle next and the impact forces the hood to dip sharply. The jeep jolted again, almost losing control completely.

But Kimberly had more control than I thought she had and quickly corrected it. Her eyes flicked toward me again through the broken angle of the mirror and she…..smiled.

That same calm cold smile that left an unsettling feeling in my chest. And then she pressed harder on the gas and the engine roared.

We were still attached to the vehicle for a split second longer and then everything shifted suddenly. The road ahead straightened

out as the trees fell away and the cliffside opened.

Fuck!

“We need to stop!” Serena roared.

We dropped away instinctively, claws tearing free from the jeep as Apex did the same clearly seeing that if we continued we would fall off the cliff.

But Kimberly didn’t slow, nor did she hesitate. Hell, she didn’t even look afraid one bit.

Instead she turned the wheel slightly, a cold smirk on her face just as Hannah screamed bloody murder and then she drove straight off the edge.

“Kimberly no!” She cried out, trying to take the wheel but it was already far too late….they were already going down.

For a heartbeat, my breathing hitched and I looked at the vehicle in horror, Wind tore under the jeep as it left the ground and Hannah’s scream cut through the air again sharply. So loud that my ears started to ring.

Then the vehicle dropped, falling down the slope, spinning once, then twice before it hit the water below with a violent crash that echoed up the cliff like thunder. The sound of the impact ripped through the air.

My Heart skipped a painful beat.

Serena skidded to a stop at the edge, claws digging into stone so hard it cracked beneath us. Apex comes to a halt too, just beside
