Evie’s pov

“Touch her and you’re all dead,” Ryan says tightly but his voice is so calm despite the rigidness of his form.

The laughter from the rogues got even louder, more mocking and more taunting. The leader’s eyes locked onto Ryan again and this time there was no amusement left in the depths, only challenge and mockery.

“Or maybe we should kill you first and then take your girl,” he murmured, rolling his shoulders slowly as if loosening himself up. “It’s been a while since I’ve fought an alpha.”

I wanted to correct him and say I am not Ryan’s girl but I bit my tongue when Ryan came to stand before me once more, blocking me fully now. Serena stirred but not in that angry way, no, she was liking this protective side of him while it irritated

“I don’t need protecting,” I sneered under my breath and the rogues snickered. But Ryan’s next words made me freeze.

“I will protect the mother of my child Evie,” He growls, stepping even more protective in front of me.

My breath gets snagged in my chest and I stared at Ryan in shock. I hadn’t told him….I never told him about Atlas….how could he have known…..

My pulse roars in my chest and for a second, I was unable to ground myself. Gavin. Who else could it have been? It’s no wonder he was acting strangely when he got back from the council meeting.

Now I understand why he sent me with Ryan alone. He knew what he had done, what he had revealed.

My hands fists at my sides and I can’t help but feel furious. A bitter feeling of rage settles in my chest and my nails bite into the skin of my palm.

Gavin had no right to tell him. That wasn’t his secret to tell, that wasn’t anyone’s secret to tell but mine. He had promised me he

wouldn’t have….

“Why?” I snarled through the mindlink, knowing he would know exactly what I was talking about. “Why did you do it?”

Gavin didn’t disappoint when he replied quickly. “There are things you don’t know Evie. You can be mad at me but trust me and…..trust Ryan.”

I snorted, tears burning my eyes and making my vision look foggy. I hated it. “Trust you after you told him something you shouldn’t have? Fuck you Gavin.” I cut off the link and try to rein in my emotions. This was not the time to focus on this right now, especially when we were surrounded by wolves.

I would deal with Gavin later but right now….we had a bigger problem to focus on.

The leader of the rogues smirked.” Looks like we stepped into a family problem,” he whistles and steps forward. His movement causes Ryan to stiffen.” But too bad we don’t want to be entertained right now,” he hisses just before he suddenly bolted forward.

For a rogue, he was pretty quick and reached Ryan in seconds. However, Ryan stayed composed and didn’t shift on his teet once. Instead, he lifted his hand and grabbed the rogue’s neck mid-Junge, stopping him instantly.

The way he stopped the man, as if he weighed nothing, made me take in a sharp inhale. But it wasn’t just me alone who was stunned. Every rogue looked shocked, especially the leader who let out a strangled breath.

I watched Ryan slowly tilt his head and studied the man. “I gave you a warning. You should’ve taken heed.” The calmness in his voice somehow made the rogues look at each other unsure. They didn’t know whether to intervene or not.

The rogue struggled in his grip, his hands clawing at Ryan’s wrist but didn’t release his grip. If anything, he tightened it until a slight crack echoed in the air.

“You talk a lot of shit for an alpha whose pack got demolished not too long ago,” the rogue gasped despite being held by the throat.

Ryan lets out a dry chuckle. ” My pack got demolished, not me. Your mistake was thinking I was weak,” Suddenly Apex’s aura rolled through the air like lightning and the rogues visibly took steps back.

Ryan had intentionally held his power back and was now showing it off. A few of the rogues even dropped their gazes as they were unable to hold eye contact under the mere weight of it.

‘So hot,’ Serena purrs.

Ryan’s grip tightened just a little bit more and I ogle the way his veins strained under his skin. Another crack follows after but this time it sounded way louder.

The rogue choked, eyes widening as his body went rigid. Panic finally flooded his features and defeat swirls in his irises. The arrogance he wore before was gone……completely stripped away bare and now leaving nothing but the stench of fear clinging to

him.

“Wa-it-” he tried but the words died in his throat, veins on his forehead and neck pulsing as he tried to breathe. I can hear his rapid pulse in his chest and my nose curled up in disgust when I took the rancid scent of his urine.

I looked down and saw the urine drip down his pants and disappear on the ground. The asshole just pissed himself. So much for acting so powerful and untouchable. 1

Ryan leaned in just close enough for the rogue to freeze up, eyes flashing with dread. He knew his end was coming. “You should’ve walked away,” his voice was so nonchalant that you’d never be able to tell he was seething silently. The only way you could is by his scent and the way his body tensed.

A sickening crack sound rings in the air and the rogue’s neck falls to the side. His neck hadn’t broken in a lethal way and his wolf would be able to slowly heal it back into place. Ryan drops his limp body to the ground and wipes his hands off his chest like he was disgusted. Serena purrs in my head and I nearly roll my eyes.

“Anyone else?” he asked calmly to the other rogues who gasped and stepped back.” His neck will heal in a full day, however you try to attack me and my mate and I will not be as merciful. I will rip your throat out until your wolves are unable to heal you.”

Serena stirred when he said the word mate and my heart drums louder in my ears. While she was practically melting, I was growing irritated. He kept claiming me the entire time tonight. Did he forget what he had done to me?

‘We love to be claimed,’ Serena purrs. 1

‘Not by him,’ I snapped, shoving her back but she was relentless.

‘Especially by him,’ she retorted back, half amused, half serious. ‘You willingly opening your legs for him earlier proved that

I flushed and tried to ignore the way I was feeling as Ryan still stood protectively before me. ‘Shut up,’ I snapped at her but she only laughed. The bitch was enjoying every second of my discomfort and I hated it.

Before I could twirl any further into that mess, I forced my focus outward, back to the rogues, back to the danger still lingering in the air. Because unlike my horny wolf, I hadn’t forgotten where we were and whom we were with.

“Don’t go,” One of the rogues muttered to the others, his voice warning them. “This isn’t worth it.”

“Obviously,” another hissed as his eyes flicked warily between Ryan and me.
