Evie’s pov

My breath hitched. Munchkin.

Goddess…..he knew exactly what he was doing.

Heat flooded my cheeks but I refused to let him see how much that one word affected me. Instead, I forced my expression into something unimpressed, even though the roaring of my pulse says anything but.

“Do you really think it will be a good idea?” I arched one of my brows and folded my arms across my chest as I dragged my eyes away from his…..very distracting, yummy body.

Bare chest….defined abs and that stupid perfect V-line disappearing into his pants…..you can’t blame me for getting distracted.

“I think it’s the best idea,” he replied with a light laugh as rolls his shoulders like he was preparing for a casual stroll instead of a fight. “That way you don’t have to go easy and you can give me all you got,” he winks and goddess I think Serena melted.

Lisa snorted. “Be careful what you wish for.”

Her words doesn’t seem to get Ryan alarmed, instead the cocky asshole smirks at me teasingly. He was challenging me.

My eyes narrowed on his handsome face and I stepped forward, closing the distance between us until we were only a few feet apart. “Don’t cry when I knock you on your ass in front of your warriors Alpha.”

His warriors gasped, shocked that I was speaking to their alpha in the way that I do. Ryan on the other hand looks thrilled. I nearly rolled my eyes.

Did he think this was some game?

“Careful munchkin,” he murmured, lowering his voice just for me. “I might enjoy that.” 1

My stomach flipped and my heart skipped a few beats. I glared at him and tried to ignore the way his muscles strained or the way he was starting to sweat under the hot sun. Something about his skin glistening made me thirsty to-

Focus Evie.

‘Someone’s just as horny as I am,’ Serena teased.

“Pay attention closely!” I snapped, turning sharply before he could see the effect he was having on me. Everyone formed a circle around us, not tightly but in a way they could see everything.

Lisa leaned in, her voice brushing my ear as she passed me. “Try not to stare too much at his body, yeah?” she joked.

I elbowed her waist lightly. “Shut up.”

She grinned and stepped back. I stretched and cracked my fingers, readying myself. This wasn’t Lisa or the others, hell, this wasn’t Kwan or Jonah. This was Ryan. A powerful alpha and I got to witness just how powerful he’s gotten last night during that rogue ambush.

“I don’t expect you to hold back,” I warned him as Serena stirred. We have to show him how much stronger we got too during the three years we haven’t seen each other. I was no longer the weakling.

He gave me a lazy grin and then winked. “I wouldn’t dare.”

The second he stopped speaking, he lunges, not giving me enough time to right myself. But I was quick. I’ve always been quick. It was one of my strong traits.

I twisted at the last second, his hand barely grazing my arm as I ducked under him and spun behind his back. My leg shot out, aiming for behind his knee but he moved just as fast, turning around. I struck my fists out, aiming for his face but he caught my

wrist mid air and he tugged me to him.

Chest to chest. Breath to breath.

I smirked and he grinned.

“You’ve gotten a lot faster,” he murmured, eyes glinting with pride.

I remember when we used to play fight. Even though it had been playful, I was always the slowpoke. He’d tease me about it

nonstop.

I yanked my hand free and pushed off his chest, creating some distance between us so I could breathe properly. “Don’t sound so surprised.”

“Oh I’m not,” he said truthfully. “I’m impressed Evie.”

My heart pounds and heat crawls up my neck. I hated that he was getting to me.

“Keep your compliments Alpha,” I snapped. “Because you’re going to need that energy when you’re flat on your back.”

A few of the warriors looked at us worriedly, unsure if this was only training now or if we were serious.

“Tempting,” he murmured, eyes flashing as he circled me slowly. His eyes never leave mine. “But I’d much rather have you on your back,” he winks and everyone gasps. However, I could hear Lisa and a few others giggle.

I groaned, rolling my eyes.

‘Oh please, you like it.’ Serena teased.

‘Shut up,’ I grunted. ‘ Focus on winning this.’

‘I don’t know,’ Serena drawls. ‘ Him putting us on our back doesn’t sound too bad.’

‘Serena!’ I snapped and she giggled.

‘Fine fine fine,’ she sighs. ‘Let’s do this.’

With a smirk, Ryan moved first again but this time I stepped into him instead of turning away and blocked his movement. My elbow aimed toward his ribs but he twisted slightly and caught it against his side. His other hand shot out and gripped my waist, turning me around to pull me flush against his front.

I sucked in a sharp breath.

“Don’t hesitate when you get close,” he murmurs softly beside my ear. I shudder and my eyes flash with irritation at my traitorous body.

I twisted around in his hold and slammed my forehead forward. His head snapped back slightly and he let out a surprised grunt. I used that moment to shove him off me a little and sweep my leg under him.

This time, I catch him off guard and manage to make him stumble. He dropped to one knee as a collective gasp rippled through the air. “Don’t underestimate me, Alpha.”

I lunged, aiming to pin him before he could recover but his hand shot out and caught my ankle mid motion. Fuck. I stagger forward, about to fall flat on my face, when his hand shoots out again and grabs my waist.

I am flushed against him and painfully aware of every point of contact between us. He smirks at me and leans forward and for a moment, I thought he would kiss me. But instead his head twists and his lips kiss my ear as he whispers teasingly “You were saying?”

My heart slammed against my ribs and I shuddered. Damn him.
