Evie’s pov
Ryan freezes above me.
For the first time since this fight started, he doesn’t smirk, he doesn’t tease….Ryan doesn’t move at all. His entire body locks like someone just pulled the ground out from under him.
Atlas stands small beside Quincy as she clutches his tiny hand, his eyes searching for me ” Atlas,” I breathed, my heart feeling happy and relieved at once as tears fogged my vision.
His hair is a mess of dark soft curls and the way the sunlight struck against it made him look angelic. My own little angel. My heart warms and I smile at him tearily. But when his dark eyes land on Ryan on top of me, they darken.
“Get off my mommy!” He hisses, fighting to let Quincy free him as he glares at Ryan.
Ryan reacts instantly and pushes himself off me so fast it’s almost a blur. But I don’t focus on him right now, I focus on my son as I nod at Quincy to free him. She lets him go and he instantly runs over to me.
I forget about everyone around me, I forget about Ryan staring at us shocked and frozen, I forget about everything else except
Atlas.
I fall to my knees, the tear in my eyes slipping as it trails down my cheek. If there’s anyone who could make me weak, it would be Atlas. I open my arms and he crashes into me.
“Mommy!” he cries, his small arms wrapping tightly around my neck as if he’s afraid I’ll disappear again.
I clutch him just as tightly and pull him into me. I bury my face into his curls as a sob breaks free from my chest. I inhale his comforting scent. Home.
I’ve missed this.
“I’ve got you,” I whisper over and over, my voice shaky as I clutch him tighter. “I’ve got you, baby.”
“We decided to come a little earlier,” Quincy smiles as she walks over. “He’s been so excited the second I mentioned we were going to meet you,” She lets out a breathy laugh.
I nod, giving her a grateful smile.
My fingers thread through Atlas’s soft dark hair and I begin to pepper kisses against his forehead, his temple and cheeks. Honestly, my lips drew kisses anywhere I could reach on his face. Even his ears got them.
He giggles.
“I missed you,” I choke out.
“I miss you too mommy,” he giggles as I continue to kiss his face lovingly.
Around us, the hush whispers have begun.
“Why does he look like…..our alpha?” One gasped.
“He smells like him too,” another whispered.
But how?” the murmurs continued softly but I could hear them.
I stiffen slightly, my arms tightening instinctively around Atlas as if I could shield him from the weight of their stares and words. I prayed he was too young to grasp their words and question me.
But then Atlas pulls away slightly, slightly enough to look past my shoulder and at the man standing behind me like a frozen statue. Ryan. He was staring at his father.

With narrowed eyes. My heart leaps.
“Why were you on top of my mommy? Did you hurt her?” Atlas asked, his voice protective. He had always been too wise for his
age.
I peel away from him to look at Ryan whose eyes were locked entirely on Atlas. They were wide and disbelieving, like he was trying to figure out if the vision in front of him was true or false.
“No no baby,” I tell Atlas, trying to get my little guy to calm down. For his age, he was very protective of me. “We were training,” I explain quickly. “Sparring. Like play fighting, remember? Like how you do with the warriors?”
His little brow pinches and he doesn’t look convinced as his eyes still glare at Ryan. Then he does something that shocks me and everyone else. He steps out of my hold and walks over to Ryan.
“Atlas-
I stop when Quincy gives me a shake of her head as if telling me let him. So I let him.
Ryan is staring at him like he’s scared the moment would shatter and his son wouldn’t be in front of him. Atlas stops just before him and tilts his head up to study him. Ryan’s chest rises as he takes in sharp inhales. His fingers twitch at his sides as he stared at Atlas in awe. It was like he wanted to reach out but was terrified of doing the wrong thing.
And then Atlas suddenly said. “You’re huge,” 1
Ryan lets out a soft breath, something almost like a laugh and falls to his knees. Even on his knees he was still too tall for Atlas.” Hey mommy, he has the same hair color as me! And we have the same eyes,” Atlas looks over his shoulder at me, now seeming to be excited despite having glaringly stared at Ryan earlier.
He points at Ryan. ” He looks like me but much older,” Atlas finished proudly, like he had just solved the most challenging puzzle in the world.
A shaky breath left my lips and my eyes flicker to Ryan. And I see it then.
His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, his eyes glossing over as he stared at the little boy in front of him……his little boy. His son. The child he didn’t even know existed until yesterday.
“Yeah,” Ryan’s voice came out broken like he was barely holding himself together. “Yeah, I guess I do,” his eyes flicker to me briefly before they return to his son who looks even more curious.
Atlas tilted his head again, studying him like he was trying to piece together a puzzle. His small nose scrunched up slightly before he asked bluntly. “Are you a warrior too? Is that why you were sparring with my mommy?”
A soft wave of laughter moved through some of the warriors around us and that cases the tension just a bit.
A faint smile tugged at Ryan’s lips. “Something like that.”
Atlas’s eyes lit up immediately. “I’m going to be the strongest warrior when I grow up so I can protect mommy!” He said proudly as he puffed his chest out a little. “I train all the time. Mommy says I’m getting better.”
Ryan’s gaze flickered to me for the briefest second and something warm flashed through his eyes before he returns his gaze back to Atlas.
“I don’t doubt that,” He said softly and this time there was no teasing in his voice. Just truth. “You look so strong already”
Atlas beamed and my poor heart squeezes painfully. He had no idea yet….that he was speaking to his father. The man I said abandoned us…..
Suddenly, Ryan slowly but carefully lifted his hand. He looked cautious as if he were approaching a wild animal that might run if he moved too fast. His fingers hovered over Atlas’s head for a moment before he lets out a sigh and let his hand drop into his curls.

Ryan froze and Atlas did too. But Atlas didn’t….pull away. He stayed and he even surprises me when he leans into Ryan’s touch
even more.
Ryan’s breath hitched by Atlas’s action and his eyes grew even more misty.
“You’re real….” Ryan whispered more to himself as he stared at his son in awe. “You’re really here.”
Atlas frowned slightly, his little nose scrunching in that adorable way again. “Of course I’m real.”
Light laughter brushes around us and Atlas studies Ryan again but this time, he looks suspicious. “You don’t look like a warrior.
A shocked chuckle parts out of Ryan’s mouth. “Is that so?” he teases our son lightly.
Atlas nods.” You seem much stronger now that I’m close.”
Ryan’s grin widens. “That’s because I am an alpha.”
Atlas’s eyes widen in awe and he snaps his head to look at me as though he just got a brilliant idea in his little head. “Mommy can we play house now? He looks like me and he can play my daddy. He’s strong enough to play my Daddy. You said Daddy was an alpha.”
Everyone goes quiet and I felt my heart drop to my stomach. Atlas was innocent and he didn’t know what his words had caused.
I swallowed, my eyes stinging as I looked at him.
‘It was now or never Evie,’ Serena whispers. ‘Tell him now.’
Tears slipped from my eyes as I breathed out shakily. “We don’t have to play and pretend baby,” my eyes flicker past him to Ryan, who holds his breath. ” Because he really is your daddy.”
