Evie’s pov
Midnight Ridge wasn’t just a pack. It’s where I rebuilt myself and became who I am today. It’s where I found my peace and home….
I swallowed as I shook my head and Gavin let out a sigh, dropping his hand from my head. “I’m not putting pressure on you to be a family with him. You need time to heal and forgive, no need to rush,” he smiled. “But I am saying that Ryan does intend to be a family with you and he does still love you.”
I nod, pressing my lips together tightly as I try to not cry. Quincy comes forward and pulls me into a hug. “Whatever you choose to do….would be the right thing,” she whispers in my ear and then pulls back.
“Now to tear away from that awful heavy tension, please tell me what I’ve missed,” her eyes flashed with excitement. “I’ve heard Kimberly drove off the cliff with her best friend who helped her escape.”
For a few minutes I fill Quincy in on what has happened in the pack in less than three days. By the end of it, her jaw was slacked and nearly dropped to the floor. “I can’t believe she’d kill her mother! So wicked.”
I shrugged, not feeling any pain that the woman who had died was also my mother. “I believe it was supposed to be a distraction but it failed miserably.”
Quincy shook her head. “If I were here, I’d personally throw her off the cliff myself,” Quincy huffed.
I cracked a smile, though my heart still felt heavy from the conversation with Gavin earlier. I was just about to respond to her when a sharp little voice reaches my ears. ” Mommy!” Atlas calls from downstairs, his excited little voice echoing through the house.
The tension in my chest loosened quickly and without even realizing it, I was smiling. “You should definitely go check out what kind of chaos he’s causing down there,” Quincy teased.
Gavin smirked. “I hope he’s giving that bastard a hell of a time,”
Quincy turns to give her brother a sharp glare. “That’s not nice brother.”
Gavin shrugged. “I never said I was nice.”
I shook my head at the two bantering siblings and turn around to head for the door. But before I could open it fully, Gavin’s voice stops me. “Evie.”
I glanced back over my shoulder to catch sight of his softened gaze. “You deserve to get back what was stolen from you, you
know.”
My throat tightened and my heart hammers behind my ribcage but Atlas’s voice shouts again. “Mommy! Hurry!”
Quincy and Gavin cracked a smile and I couldn’t help but crack one too as I rushed downstairs quickly. The smell of grilled chicken hit me instantly the second I stepped into the kitchen. I froze at the sight before me, my heart slamming hard against my chest before squeezing.
Atlas was standing on one of the kitchen chairs and his dad…..stood right behind him protectively as Atlas stirred something in the pot.
As if sensing I was here, Atlas turns to face me and I can’t help but let out a faint giggle. On his cheeks, smudged mayonnaise and ketchup. He looked ridiculously adorable as he grinned brightly and proudly.
“Mommy!” For a boy his age, he was so intelligent and a little…loud. I smirked. “Daddy’s making me help make the chicken for the sandwiches.”
Daddy….

My heart gives a firm squeeze.
My eyes flicker to Ryan who was watching closely at what Atlas was doing.
‘Why does he look so good in the kitchen?’ Serena practically melted as she whined. ‘We should lick his abs,’
‘Serena..’ I snapped. ‘Shut up.’
I was also flushed and Serena definitely could tell but thankfully, she didn’t tease me this time. I think she was too busy drooling
over Ryan to care.
Ryan still didn’t have a shirt on from training and his back muscles were toned and tense as he helped Atlas stir the shredded chicken in the pan. Without thinking, the tip of my tongue darts out to lick over my bottom lip.
I was hungry, but for something entirely different than the chicken sandwich.
Ryan must’ve felt me ogling him because he turned around slightly and caught me instantly. One side of his mouth lifted slowly into a teasing, knowing smirk and those dark eyes peered into my soul. “You okay there munchkin?”
A blush so furious and bright settles on my cheeks instantly. How embarrassing.
“I-yes of course,” I coughed awkwardly and looked anywhere but him as I finished. “I’ve never been better.”
“You got a little bit of drool there,” he teased, fingers pointing to the corner of his mouth as his eyes flashed mischievously.
I lifted my hand quickly and tried to wipe the invisible drool away but found out too late that Ryan had only been joking. I glared at him and he chuckled.
Mommy, daddy burnt the bread,” Atlas suddenly said and I choked on a laugh, grateful that he pulled me away from my embarrassing situation. “It was so black!”
“Oh you traitor,” Ryan teasingly joked. ” After showing you how to make the best chicken sandwiches, this is how you repay me? By exposing my failures in front of your mommy?”
He dramatically clutched his chest.
