Ryan held my gaze for a long moment after Kwan and Lisa disappeared from our sight. The amusement in his expression slowly faded into something softer, warmer. He was peering at me with adoration in his eyes.

The look made a blush crawl up my neck and settle on my cheeks. Ryan’s smile widens.

Atlas, who was completely unaware of the emotional situation happening inside me, tugged at Ryan’s pants lightly to grasp his attention. “Daddy, the chicken.”

Ryan blinked, tearing his eyes away from mine and looked down at the chicken in the pan quickly. “Right. The chicken.”

I bit the inside of my cheek to stop smiling as he turned back to the stove. There was something unbelievably beautiful about the sight before me. Ryan standing shirtless in a kitchen while cooking with our son. Atlas talking nonstop while Ryan listened to every single word intently, like whatever Atlas was spewing out was very important.

Serena sighed dreamily as she stared at Ryan and Atlas. “This feels so right.’

And scary enough….it did.

Ryan plated the sandwiches a few minutes later while Atlas proudly carried napkins to the dining table like he’d contributed to a five-star meal. I watched fondly as Ryan pulled the chair out for Atlas first before sitting right beside him.

My heart warms.

“Mommy, hurry come eat before the sandwiches get cold!” Atlas complained dramatically.

I laughed softly and walked over to the table, sliding into the chair across from them. Atlas instantly tries to push one of the plates toward me proudly. Ryan helps him.

“I helped make yours mommy,” he informed me with a bright cheshire cat grin on his face. “Daddy only did the dangerous parts.”

Ryan snorted beside him, raising his brow slightly as he looked at Atlas. “Dangerous?”

“The stove,” Atlas nodded and then his brows furrowed. “And the burning of the bread.”

I choked on a laugh while Ryan groaned. “You are never letting the bread thing go, huh?”

“Nope,” He popped the P and took a bite out of his perfectly cut triangle bread, I looked at Ryan and he gave me a nervous smile. “It’s a force of habit. I tried to do it like how I liked it when I was a kid. Perfect triangles.” T

My heart squeezed. Atlas got everything from him. “That’s exactly how he likes it,” I smiled at Ryan and he looked relieved that he didn’t mess it up. He then chuckles and utters. “I guess he took a lot from me, huh.”

I nod, unable to stop the smile on my face from spreading.” He did.”

I picked up the sandwich and the moment I did, Ryan’s eyes flickered nervously. Almost nervously.

“I uh….” He rubbed the back of his neck, his face flushing. I stare at him in awe. I’ve never seen him this anxious before. “I don’t know if your taste changed over the years but I still remember how you liked your sandwiches.” 1

My fingers tightened around the sandwich instantly and I slowly looked down and observed it carefully My heart skips a beat when I noticed he had crisped the bread just a little but left the middle soft….just the way I liked it.

My throat tightened as I held back my emotions from showing too much.

He remembered.

Serena whimpered emotionally. ‘He remembers how we like our bread. Oh, we’re so done for.’

I ignored her because honestly, I agreed. We were truly and utterly done for. I was….starting to fall for him again. But perhaps….I had always been in love with him even after everything……

Maybe those feelings never left…..

Ryan shifted slightly in his chair when I stayed quiet too long. “If it tastes horrible, blame Atlas. He supervised.”

Atlas gasped loudly, his little eyes widening. “Daddy!”

I laughed under my breath and finally took a bite out of the sandwich. The taste hit me like a past memory.

Late nights after I cleaned Kimberly’s mess and mom would order the maids to not feed me anything. Ryan hadn’t known then, but he heard the rumble in my tummy. He would drag me into the kitchen because I “forgot to eat again.” He’d make sandwiches for me and we’d eat them together, laughing about random stuff.

I use to cherish moments like this with him.

I close my eyes as I savor the taste of the sandwich as I am brought back into the past.

“You still make that face,” Ryan’s quiet voice pulls me from the memory and my eyes flutter open slowly as I stare at him puzzled.

He was watching me intensely. Everywhere his eyes touched on my skin, it tingled.

“What face?” I whispered, my voice embarrassingly breathless as my cheeks flush even more.
