Evie’s pov

It was now nighttime and the pack house had quieted down a lot. Atlas had spent the last thirty minutes running around the room as I tried to get him into his pajamas after I gave him a warm bath.

“Atlas,” I sighed as I hold up his pajamas in my hand, dangling them as I watch the very happy three year old jump on the bed and crash face first into the pillows. 1

His loud giggles filled the room immediately after. “No pajamas,” he said dramatically into the blankets.

I raised a brow. “Oh really now? You don’t want to put on your pajamas?”

“Nope,” he popped the P and rolled onto his back. His damp dark curls were sticking up everywhere from his bath and my chest squeezed painfully because Goddess…….he really does look so much like Ryan. “I’m free now.”

Serena snorted in my head. ‘Definitely Ryan’s child.’ I couldn’t agree more.

I bit back a laugh. “You still need to put on clothes Atlas,” I utter as I move towards the bed. He quickly scrambled across the bed away from me when I approached with the pajamas. “Noooo,” he cries dramatically.

“You literally picked these pajamas yourself,” I pointed out to him as I stretch to grasp his little leg. He quickly moves away before I could, shrieking with happiness.

“I don’t want it anymore,” he giggled, obviously not serious but of course loved to stir up some trouble before bed.

I lunged forward quickly and finally caught him around the waist before he could escape again. Atlas shrieked loudly in betrayal and begins to laugh uncontrollably as I tickle him. “Mommy!”

After a few attempts, I finally was able to wrestle him into the tiny grey pajamas that had trucks printed on the material, Quincy gifted him a few months ago.

He looked down at himself and grinned. “I look cool!”

I smiled at him. “You do. Now off to bed mister! Mom has to wake up early tomorrow morning to lead training.”

Atlas immediately sat up on the bed and looked at me. “No mommy. Story first.”

I blinked at him. “Story first?”

He nodded eagerly and stood up to bounce on the mattress. “Yes, Aunt Quincy brought me my favorite book! It’s in the suitcase! Daddy has to read it.”

My heart skipped at the unexpected request. ” Your daddy?” I repeated carefully.

Atlas looked at me with an eager smile. “Mhmm,” he said happily. “I want daddy to do bedtime stories now.”

Before I could even figure out how to respond to his request, a knock sounded softly against the partially opened door. Both Atlas and I looked up instantly and my breath caught when I spotted Ryan.

He stood there wearing dark grey sweatpants and a dark shirt that clung deliciously to his body. His hair looked slightly damp from having obviously taken a shower. His hand rests against the doorframe as he leans against it casually.

“I came to say goodnight to Atlas,” he explained softly before his eyes shifted toward me. They raked over my form heatedly and I sucked in a breath.

‘You were eye-fucking him, so it’s only fair he does the same to you too,’ Serena giggled.

‘Shut it,’ I grunted.

“It that’s okay with you?” Ryan’s lips tilt into a smirk and my face heats up instantly.

Atlas suddenly launched himself off the bed so fast I barely had time to react. “Daddy!” he shouted excitedly before colliding directly into Ryan’s legs, his arms up to let his father know he wants to be picked up.

Ryan let out a surprised grunt before laughing warmly and scoops him up effortlessly. Atlas wrapped himself around him instantly as if he has done it his entire life. The sight made my heart clench.

Ryan’s entire expression softened as he looked down at Atlas. “Someone seems energetic for bedtime,” he raised a brow.

“I need a story first,” Atlas giggled, his eyes identical to his dad’s, staring at him happily.

Ryan chuckled. “A story?”

“Yes. Mommy said it’s bedtime but I’m not tired,” Atlas pointed accusingly toward me before his eyes returned to his father.” But I need to hear a story first,” he pouts adorably.

Ryan laughed quietly again and goddess, that sound did dangerous things to my heart. I swallowed.

“Well,” Ryan said as he glanced toward me cautiously. “I can read him one quickly if you want.”

Before I could answer, Atlas grabbed Ryan’s face with both hands. “No, a long one, daddy.” he ordered firmly.

Ryan looked far too amused for someone being bossed around by a three year old. “You want to hear a long one, huh?”

Atlas nodded eagerly, his smile widening and it revealed his white teeth. “The longest one ever.”

Ryan gasped dramatically. “The longest one ever? That’s a lot of pressure son.”

Atlas giggled loudly and wrapped his arms tighter around Ryan’s neck. “You can do it daddy.”

Ryan huffed like he was preparing for the hardest task of his life. “Well, if my son believes in me then I guess I have no choice.”

My heart melted and I smiled at the two. Ryan walked further into the room while carrying Atlas with ease. I moved toward the suitcase beside the dresser and unzipped it quickly. Atlas immediately leaned over Ryan’s shoulder excitedly, his eyes shining.

“The blue book mommy! The blue one!” he giggled loudly and points at the suitcase. 1

I searched through the clothes until I spotted the worn hardcover book Quincy had bought him a year ago. The corners were bent from how often Atlas forced me to read it to him. When I held it up, Atlas clapped happily. “Yes, that one!”

I walked to them and Ryan smiled softly as he took the book from my hand, his fingers brushing mine briefly. The contact made a zap of electricity to pass through me and my breath hitches while my pulse jumped traitorously.

“Alright, Atlas,” Ryan murmured. “Bed first.”

Atlas surprisingly obeyed immediately for once and crawled toward the middle of the bed and dramatically throwing himself beneath the blankets. “I’m ready,” he pats the covers in excitement.

I narrowed my eyes on his excited face. He made no fuss yet he had me run around the room for more than thirty minutes to get him ready for bed.

Ryan sat against the headboard and Atlas curled beside him instantly. Then Atlas pats the space beside him and looks at me.” Come mommy,”

I looked over at Ryan and my heart skipped a beat when his warm eyes met mine. “Mommy,” Atlas urges and with a soft breath, I climb onto the bed beside him. The second I settled down, Atlas beamed proudly like he had accomplished something very important.

“Now we’re a family,” he suddenly sighs and snuggles into his dad’s side. My heart gives a squeeze and my traitorous eyes flicker to Ryan. He’s already staring at me and the second our eyes clash, he smiles.

Heat crawls up my neck and settles on my cheeks.
