Evie’s pov

Fear curled in my belly by his words and seeing that, he lets out another sigh.

“Don’t even bother to fight us,” he says, looking directly at me. “You will just exhaust yourself.”

My chest heaves as I stare at him, tears stinging my eyes. “Why bring me to the alpha to just kill me? Why not do it now?”

Something dark flashes through his gaze.

“If Alpha Gavin wanted you dead,” he says evenly, “you wouldn’t have woken up this morning. Despite the rumors that go around about him being ruthless, he won’t just kill you on the spot unless you pose a threat. However, you’re a white wolf, it is essential to bring you to him before we decide your fate.”

That does nothing to calm me and they don’t give me another chance to argue.

‘Stay calm,’ Serena warns. ‘If we fight them now there’s a chance we won’t get to escape. Besides, we can’t shift now since I am using my power to heal you. Your body also can’t take on another shift yet.”‘

One of them shifts fully in a blur of motion, bones cracking as a massive dark wolf takes his place. The others follow, fur rippling over skin in seconds. The leader, the one with dark hair remains human.

“You’ll ride,” he says simply and nudge his chin to one of the wolves with brown fur. Before I can protest, he lifts me effortlessly and settles me onto the broad back of the wolf.

I clutch the dark brown fur unsurely as I shiver with anxiety. The leader jumps up on the wolf, right behind me and holds me steady.

In seconds the forest begins to move. Fast. Trees blur past as they run through the greenery, their powerful wolves eating up the distance with a terrifying ease that made me tremble with more terror.

Wind tears at my hair and tears run down my cheeks as I realize how my fate was doomed. Fear coils in my stomach. I’ve been caught by one of the strongest pack’s in the world.

And I’m being delivered straight into the hands of one of the strongest and ruthless alpha who would most likely kill me on the spot.

The ride feels endless as I listen to the pounding of their paws on the earth. Each stride has my stomach knotting

even more.

I can barely breathe and it feels like a weight is crushing on my chest. The weight of what was about to happen to

⚫ ‘You need to be calm Evie,’ Serena says gently.’ We need to be alert and to do so, you need to be calm.’

‘Asking me to be calm in this situation is like asking me to hold my breath underwater for two hours,’ I retort back to her. ‘We are outnumbered and I cannot shift. We are being brought to one of the ruthless alphas alive. If we make it out alive, it would be a miracle.’

She remains silent and for a second I thought she’d not respond but then she says. ‘At least we won’t die under our mates hand.’

Her words made me stutter a breath and tears blur my vision. ‘Ex mate,’ I corrected her as my words come out soft and feeble. ‘He has already claimed another and our bond is now broken.’

This time she does stay silent, pushing herself at the back of my mind.

The wolves slow suddenly and my grip tightens as the motion shifts. My gaze lift and my heart leaps into my throat when the forest opens into a huge clearing.

Midnight Ridge.

Wolves are everywhere. Some pause mid sentence when they see us appearing out of the forest line, Othered straighten when their eyes caught me on top. I flushed under their gazes knowing that I was seen as nothing but a prisoner. A lone wolf.

One who stepped onto their territory without permission. I was the enemy.

I shrink, lowering my gaze as I swallowed hard.

We stop at a huge towering dark stone structure at the center of the clearing and my stomach clenches. I think I might just vomit…..

The leader slides off first and reaches for me. By instinct I flinch away but he grips my waist and without much of a struggle he lowers me to the ground.

My legs nearly buckle the moment my feet touch the earth. I was thirsty, tired and scared. My body was weak.

He turns and heads for the towering building while saying over his shoulder to the other two wolves that have now shifted into their human form. “Bring her to alpha Gavin. He is waiting for her.”

The two naked wolves step towards me and one gestures toward the building with his chin. “Move,”

I stay frozen, as my heart stutters with fear. His eyes flick with irritation. “Unless you want us to drag you inside ourselves.”

Those words alone it took for me to start walking towards the building cautiously. Every step felt like I was going towards my pending doom. Which when you really think about it… I was.

The moment I step inside the air shifts. The power that radiants inside is so strong. It’s the power that can compete with Ryan’s and his dad. And they were pretty strong alpha’s themselves.

The wolves move closer to me, not touching but close enough to give me a silent warning that if I dare try to escape they’d murder me.

We reach an end of a corridor, the leader before us. He opens the door and enters. The power is stronger here. Suffocating.

‘Keep your head up high,’ Serena says. ‘We must be on high alert. He is powerful.’

The second we enter the room my bones grow stiff. Standing at the center of a huge glass wall is Gavin Santros. Alpha of the midnight ridge pack.

The pull of his presence alone is suffocating and my knees tremble. Yet my wolf for some reason kept me up, refusing to fall to her knees.

His back is facing us, strong and tensed. He is tall too. Very tall. Perhaps same height with Ryan. His hair is also midnight black. Same as Ryan’s.

He doesn’t turn when we enter.

“Alpha,” the wolves say to garner his attention.
