Evie’s pov

I stand there completely frozen, staring at Gavin’s back. The wolves had stopped what they were doing to sluft their focus on the Some stared at me like i was a puzzle they don’t trust Olivers don’t bother hiding dieir suspicion and confusion. However, none of them challenge Gavin’s words

At least not openly.

Quincy rushës over to me, grabs my arm and lets out a breath beside me. “Well,” she says lightly, bumping ber shoulder against mine playfully and pulls me out of my thoughts. “Looks like my brother has a spot for you in this pack after all,”

My heart Nutters anxiously. Did that mean he wasn’t going to kill me? My hands begin to shake slightly.

Quincy notices my shaking hands and gently squeezes them. “Come on,” she says. “Let’s get you food before you pass out,”

Silently I follow her, well it’s not like I had a choice seeing as she gripped me firmly and pulled me along with her.

I was silent because I didn’t quite know what to say. So I just followed her, my legs still a bit wobbly from what happened earlier.

Things could’ve gone down south if Serena hadn’t calm down.

As we walk toward the pack grounds, I glance back once. Gavin stands in the middle of the clearing, speaking quietly to Jonah who still seemed a bit tensed. His form is so towering and his power…..

I had felt it when he came between Jonah and I. If Serena had attacked him I don’t think we’d be able to win. His power was significantly higher.

As if sensing my eyes on him, Gavin lifts his head and catches my gaze. His eyes aren’t cold, but it’s not warm either. It’s more like he was trying to figure me out and I had a feeling that’s the reason he didn’t kill me or throw me out of this pack yet.

I had an inkling that I was just some guinea pig and I had no choice in that matter.

‘Maybe this is where we belong,’ Serena says softly. Maybe if we get stronger Ryan would-

“Stop,” I say to her, my heart throbbing as an image of Ryan flashes in my mind. I rip my eyes away from Gavin and look forward. ‘He wouldn’t want us even if we do get stronger, Serena,’ I breathed brokenly.’ He already made his choice.’

My throat hurts as I tell her. ‘He chose Kimberly. He already marked her.’

‘But-

‘Any hope for a future with Ryan is no more,’ I cut in firmly even though I was breaking inside as I recall everything that happened yesterday. ‘Not when he wanted us dead.”

This keeps her quiet and I’m glad it did because I didn’t quite feel like talking about our ex mate or how he betrayed us deeply.

He’s probably happy with Kimberly as we speak. The thought sits heavy on my chest but I have no choice but to deal with it.

The pack house comes into view and the first thing I catch is the scent of food drifting through the air. Warm

bread, sausages, bacon……my stomach betrays me with a loud grumble.

Quincy giggles at the sound, one of her hand pressing to her mouth to suppress it,” yea,” she says, giving my arm a soft tug. “Definitely starving. Let’s go feed that monster before it scares everyone.”

My cheeks heat up in embarrassment but I don’t deny that I was as she guides me inside the pack house.

The warmth hits me first when I enter the kitchen with Quincy. About five women moved around the kitchen preparing food as their voices overlap the clinking of the plates. The smell of food is everywhere and my mouth

waters.

They hadn’t noticed us yet but when they do dozens of eyes flick towards me as we enter fully. Their conversations don’t stop but they quiet down a little just enough for me to feel the weight of their curiosity. I straighten instinctively, my shoulders squaring even though every part of me wants to shrink back.

“She’s the white wolf everyone’s talking about,” one of them whispers.

“That’s her?” Another questions, her eyes staring at me like I was some kind of weird animal. “She’s looks quite small.”

“Gavin really let her stay?” Another one asked, eyes narrowing. Not in an unkind way but in a way that shows her confusion.

Quincy shoots them a sharp look that tells them to be quiet and guides me toward a long wooden table. “Ignore them,” she mutters under her breath, a tinge of embarrassment in her tone. “They’re nosy here. Don’t worry they’ll get bored eventually.”

I nod, smiling softly as I take a seat. “Wait here,” before I can protest Quincy goes over to the ladies, grabs a plate and starts piling it with different foods.

Thick slices of bread, eggs, sausages and bacon. She even grabs me a bowl of fruits and orange juice. She puts the plate and bowl down in front of me and my mouth gapes in shock.

“You didn’t have to-

I started but she cuts in with an order. ” Eat,” 11

I nod, my fingers curling around the fork as I take my first bite. The food is warm and tastes so good that I moan. I flushed instantly when the women stares at me in shock. 1
