Evie’s pov
My breath stutters at Quincy’s words.

Gavin’s gaze muddles with irritation as he crosses the room and heads for the fridge while uttering coldly, “That dumb rumor stops now.” He twists around slightly, one hand gripping the fridge door as his sharp eyes sweep the kitchen assessing everyone. “I don’t care who started it or why. I will shut it down myself.”
The dominance in his voice leaves no room for protest.
Quincy lets out a breath and 1 can see her shoulders visibly relax, “Good,” she mutters. “Because if you don’t, Lisa won’t stop. You know how possessive she gets over you.”
Possessive over Gavin? Was she his mate? Impossible. She doesn’t look a day over sixteen. Perhaps she had one of those huge schoolgirl crushes on him.
Gavin shuts the fridge after pulling out a water bottle and leans back against the surface, his arms crossing over his chest. His eyes then pin on me and I nearly shrink where I am. “If anyone bothers you, you come to me,” he says flatly.
My heart thuds painfully at his words. Because they remind me of him, Ryan. How he would say those exact words to me and protect me. Even when he didn’t have to.
A lump forms in throat as a flashback crashes into me without warning.
*flashback*
I clutch the books to my chest, heart pounding as the dirty muddy water is thrown onto me. I pinch my eyes closed tightly, holding my breath when the cold water slams against my skin. In seconds I’m drenched from head to toe.
Laughter erupts around me and I squirm. Kimberly’s friends had caged me in the locker room.
“Just look at her,” one of them snickers. “So pathetic.”
Muddy water drips from my hair, sliding down my neck and soaking into my clothes. The books in my arms are now ruined. My vision blurs. Mom and Dad would never buy me new ones. They’d blame me.
“No wonder Kimberly is embarrassed of her,” another snorts and then one of them takes a step forward and lifts her hand. I clenched my eyes tightly, stiffening as I wait for the slap to land on my face like they usually do but instead…..hands grip my clothes, trying to tear it off my body.
“Stop it!” I half yell in shock but my voice is barely audible over their sickening laughter. “Please stop it!”
Someone shoves my shoulder. I stumble but keep my footing, my chest rising and falling as I try to not cry in front of them. The last thing I want is to make them feel satisfied with seeing me break.
“Say it louder you runt,” one taunts. “Or are you too weak?”
I open my mouth but then the door suddenly slams open, nearly moving off its hinges. “What the fuck are you doing to her?!” Ryan belts out in a snarl.
His voice cuts through the sickening giggles and taunting like a knife. Everything dies instantly. I lift my eyes to his as he storms towards me, seething. “Get the fuck away from her!” He roars furiously.
The girls yelped and jump away from me like I had just struck them with fire.

He steps in front of me like a protective shield, shoulders rising and falling as his hands clenched into fists at his
sides.
“If any of you touch her again,” he says calmly, his voice have a dangerous tinge swirling within it. “You answer
to me.”
Ryan doesn’t look back at me as he speaks but his hand reaches behind him and his fingers brush mine tenderly. It was like he was silently reassuring me that he got me.
My chest aches with relief.
“Alpha-
They start to cry and whine but he cuts them off. “Get out!” He snarls and they all scurry away with their tails tucked between their ass.
Ryan turns around to face me, eyeing how my clothes were ruined. His jaw ticks as he cups my cheek tenderly. ” If any one of these evil bitches bothers you again, come to me.”
End of flashback*
My vision blurs at the memory and I blink hard, dragging myself back to the present. Back to the kitchen. Back to Gavin’s piercing stare.
The ache in my chest doesn’t fade.
My fingers curl around the edge of the table, hard. It was the only thing that made me feel present. The siblings have noticed my sudden change of mood and Gavin raises a brow, eyes narrowing as Quincy asks me if I was okay.
“Yes, I’m okay,” I say quickly, way too quickly.
Quincy shoots me a look that says she doesn’t believe me but thankfully doesn’t try to pry, instead she shifts the subject.
“Also brother… there’s something else,” she says, glancing at me and then back at Gavin. “Something I’d say is quite important.”
Gavin arches a brow, his attention now shifted to his sister, eyes gleaming with suspicion. “What is it?”
Quincy looks at me then back at her brother, “Evie has no clothes. Since she’s now part of the pack, the girl needs clothes to wear.”
Gavin
Quincy steps closer to him, lowering her voice slightly. “I was thinking of taking her into town today. She needs clothes, shoes and essentials. You know girly stuff,” She utters and then suddenly blurts, “Can you give me your
card?”
I nearly choke on my saliva.
“Quincy!” I hiss. “You can’t just
Gavin doesn’t look surprised by his sister’s words and instead rolls his eyes, digging into his pocket. I quickly shake my head. “No, no it’s okay. You two don’t have to-

like the ruthless leader everyone made him out to be. “I provide for my pack. In any way they need.”
I swallowed, my throat suddenly feeling parched. He reminded me so much of Ryan. Well the Ryan who cared about me before last night.
‘Stop thinking about him,’ Serena whispers. She’s been quiet after what happened in the clearing with Jonah. The thoughts of Ryan must have rattled her uncomfortable,
‘You know I can’t stop,’ I whisper in shame. ‘Even after-
Quincy standing up and rushing towards her brother pulled me out of my inner thoughts with my wolf. She takes the card happily, smiling from ear to ear. If I were Gavin I’d be scared.
Her grin widens across her face when she spots Gavin’s irritated eyes. “Oh, I’m going to have so much fun with this. Thanks brother,” she sighs excitedly. “Thank the goddess for rich brothers who can-
“Get away from my presence,” Gavin warns dryly.
Quincy rolls her eyes, snorting. “Stop acting like you don’t love you likkle bitty sister Gavin,” she reaches to pinch his cheek but he swats her hand away and glares at her hotly.
She raises her hands up in surrender. “Sorry, forgot you have to seem tough to others.”
Gavin glare burn in her before he glances at his watch. “I’ll address the pack later today after this business meeting,” he says. “Until then,” his eyes narrowed down on her. “Stay out of trouble and don’t let her turn like you,” he warns her.
“Two of you would be a headache,” he utters under his breath but we heard it. We all did.
