Evie’s pov

‘I have to confess the truth,’ Serena started, causing me to freeze in place. I watch Quincy move closer to the edge, close to Jonah but I can’t really focus on them as Serena grabs my attention.

She sounded a bit unsure which further rattles me worried.

‘Serena,’ I breathed, staring at Jonah and Quincy. Quincy gaze softens when Jonah reaches for her and murmurs the word ‘mate’ into the air. Everyone cheered but I am locked inside my mind to even utter a word.

‘What is it?’ I ask Serena.

“I got awakened that night because…’ she trails off unsurely. ‘He planted something that was a part of him inside you. It awakened that side of you. It awakened me.’

My heart stops and blood drains from my face. My fingers grow clammy and my eyes dart around as if I was scared someone would somehow hear my wolf.

No one seems to notice my inner turmoil as everyone was focused on Quincy and Jonah. The girls cheered, I can see their mouths move as they spoke but I can’t hear none of what they were saying. All I hear…is Serena.

‘What… do you mean Serena?’ I breathed out shakily. My fingers twitched and my gaze drift to alpha Gavin. His eyes were on his sister and best friend, completely focused on the two.

Serena is silent for a very long pregnant pause. I can feel her presence deep inside me. She was hesitant and even afraid. That terrifies me more than anything because Serena never showed me she was afraid. Angry, yes, but never scared.

“That night,’ she whispers. ‘When he claimed you…your body did not remain empty.’ A cold wave crashes through me. Empty.Did not remain empty? What is she getting at? My fingers twitch at my sides.

‘Serena…’ I whisper, my throat tightening. She exhales slowly and my heart starts to pound.

‘You did not just accept him as your mate Evie.’ She breathed. ‘You accepted more. Way more.”

My stomach twists violently and the nausea I thought had long stopped, swims back up. I bite my tongue so hard I draw blood. And when her next words come, I swear I had gone deaf as my ears rang. ‘Your body accepted his seed.’

The words hit me harder than any physical blow I got during training. My vision blurs when she continues. Why is she telling me this now? Why now?

“That is why I awakened,’ Serena continues softly. ‘Your body changed instantly. Some late wolves are born to protect their young, especially white wolves. The moment life began forming inside you…I was forced awake.’

My knees nearly buckle and my heart pounds harder. ‘I didn’t tell you yet because I needed to be sure that the baby would be formed. Tonight, the process has fully begun. You’re carrying a pup Evie. His pup.’

My finger trembles as I consciously bring my fingers to my stomach, slightly grazing it. I was carrying his pup? Ryan’s pup?

The thought made me woozy but as my eyes lift to stare at Quincy and Jonah, my hands drop slowly from my stomach. I couldn’t ruin the mood now. Not when they were happy, not when Quincy got what she was praying for.

They wouldn’t know yet. I won’t let her know, At least not until I figure out how to go about this.

My eyes drift back to Alpha Gavin. He laughed under his breath, shaking his head as he watches the two.

Understanding softened his usually hard features.

If he finds out I am expecting, would he call to inform Ryan about the news? I highly doubt he’d want a pregnant unmated she wolf in his pack now.
